If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. These men have power to shut up the sky so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want.

Their bodies will lie in the street of the great city, which is figuratively called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. For three and a half days men from every people, tribe, language and nation will gaze on their bodies and refuse them burial. The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and will celebrate by sending each other gifts, because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.

At that very hour there was a severe earthquake and a tenth of the city collapsed. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the survivors were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

The SECOND WOE has passed; the THIRD WOE is coming soon.

THE SEVENTH ANGEL sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:
“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever.”
And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying:

“We give thanks to you,
Lord God Almighty,
the One who is and who was,
because you have taken
your great power
and have begun to reign.
The nations were angry;
and your wrath has come.
The time has come for
judging the dead,
and for rewarding your
servants the prophets
and your saints and those
who reverence your name,
both small and great—
and for destroying those
who destroy the earth.”

Much speculation as to who the two ‘witnesses’ are.

Enoch and Elijah are usually the candidates mentioned.............

Tissots post-Ascension are extremely rare.

Because they were both caught up to heaven, rather than dying like all others.

Yes, But Jesus said that Elijah had already came back in the form of John the Baptist, who was beheaded by Herod.

Maybe there is another person who we don’t think of, who was caught up to Heaven..................Mohammed?..............

I heard once that “it is appointed unto man” to die- and since the two you mentioned did not die, that they will do so as the two witnesses in the end times. Not sure if this is true, but it seems plausible.

But if Elijah came back as John The Baptist, he did die when Herod had him beheaded.

The only other person I can think of that supposedly did not ‘die’ is Mohammed.........................

In my view, Jesus was speaking figuratively on that occasion.

True. I suppose someone else in the bible times could have been escorted to heaven alive and not recorded in the word, but it seems unlikely

Yeah, I had heard the argument many years ago, and forget the specifics as to why they thunk the two are John and Elijah, but that had something to do with it, but as pointed out, John did die. So who knows.

I had also heard that since it is appointed unto man “once to die” that the ruptured will die on the way to heaven, and be made alive in heaven, all in the twinkling of an eye. Not sure if that is true or not either, but heard it in a message once
