Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 9
Jesus Sends Out the Twelve
9 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. 3 He told them: “Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. 4 Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town. 5 If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” 6 So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was going on. And he was perplexed because some were saying that John had been raised from the dead, 8 others that Elijah had appeared, and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had come back to life. 9 But Herod said, “I beheaded John. Who, then, is this I hear such things about?” And he tried to see him.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God!
You Have Made The Heavens,
And The Earth By Your Great Power,
By Your Word and By Your Outstretched Arm,
And Your Have Given Us Your Breath of Life
By Your Sovereign Will.
Nothing is Impossible For You,
Indeed, Nothing Surprises You,
For You Are The Beginning and The End,
The Aleph~Tav,
The Alpha and the Omega.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

I'm so excited! Today is the day that five of my students will be performing in a little family-style recital. Most of my kids are also in their Middle-School Orchestra and Chorus, and I try to get to those concerts as well. It's that time of year again!.
When the kids play in the School Concerts, they are part of a large group, but in the recital, they are either solo or a duet with me on bass. Even though the audience is family and friends, it is still a bit daunting. I do everything I can to make it fun, even though I expect excellence. Last year went great, and we are doing it the same way this year, but with more kids and instruments.
The School Concerts differ from the Recitals in other ways. One of my students treasures his guitar and brings it to the recital in an Airline-Rated hardshell case. His Viola, however, that he plays in the Middle School Orchestra, belongs to the school, and will be returned at the end of the school year. He was missing from the last School Concert because he had inadvertently left the Viola in a classroom, which had been locked at the end of the day. I had searched in vain for him in the String Section, and thought maybe he had been sick. Nope...not sick, just careless. His sense of commitment, which is so pronounced on his guitar (his program today will include songs by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and U2) seems to be totally absent when playing "Twinkle Twinkle" on a rented viola. But, I admire the Schoolteachers who can get 50 Fifth-Graders to play together at the same time!That is quite an achievement.
Since this recital is being performed at a person's home, I will need to bring a PA system. I have been schlepping equipment all my life, and the new stuff is so much lighter than the old speakers that I used to lug around.
Some venues have stepped up to the plate and installed beautiful custom sound systems, so the artist only has to bring her guitar. We call this marvelous innovation "Plug 'n' Play", and it has become the favorite gig of many. The restaurant owner evidently values the music so much that he has invested in an awesome sound system, and it relieves the artists of the onerous task of being their own "Roadie".
Luke tells us of Jesus sending His apostles out into the world. He tells them not to load up on supplies for their journey, as their Message is worthy of being supported by those who hear it. Those who believe the Message will support the apostles in their endeavors. Food, Shelter, and other accommodations will be provided. The message is THAT important. There was no need for the apostles to have a crew of roadies with them.
Well, have a great day...it's time for me to load the car.

Psalm 116
1 I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my supplications.
2 Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
3 The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
4 Then I called on the name of the Lord:
‘O Lord, I pray, save my life!’
5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
6 The Lord protects the simple;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
7 Return, O my soul, to your rest,
for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For you have delivered my soul from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling.
9 I walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
10 I kept my faith, even when I said,
‘I am greatly afflicted’;
11 I said in my consternation,
‘Everyone is a liar.’
12 What shall I return to the Lord
for all his bounty to me?
13 I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord,
14 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful ones.
16 O Lord, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the child of your serving-maid.
You have loosed my bonds.
17 I will offer to you a thanksgiving sacrifice
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
19 in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!

Yes, I do. Beethoven’s “Moonlight” Sonata. He was good but shortly after the recital, he decided he didn’t want to continue...he chose speed skating!

Ooooo...one of my favorites!
And NOT as “easy” as some people think.
I always lose students after a recital. Somehow, they look upon it as a goal, and, once achieved, want to try something else.
I don’t take it personally. :-)

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM! And for the Preservation of the Valiant Israeli Nation!

"The Exhortation of the Apostles" James Tissot |
|
= | _ | HEN he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. |
And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.
Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead;
And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again.
And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.
