Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 6
Love for Enemies
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
How Mighty,
How Majestic,
and How Wonderful!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are the Most High,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer,
Our Refuge and Our Strength!
You Are the Creator of All Things,
And Yet, Even In Your Omnipotence,
You Give us the Privilege of Calling Out To You,
"Abba, Father!"
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Psalm 8
To the leader: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants
you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals* that you care for them?
5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God,*
and crowned them with glory and honour.
6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under their feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Last Night, I took a neighbor of mine to see a local production of Mozart's Requiem. Three of my friends were in the Chorus, and there were four professional soloists, along with a 28 piece orchestra. I noticed right away that there were no high woodwinds, but two bassoons, and no high brass instruments, but THREE (Count 'em) Trombones. I thought that was odd, but, upon reading the program, learned that it was scored that way to evoke the solemnity of a funeral mass.
This had an unfortunate acoustical effect that my friend (who is a Classical Musician) remarked upon afterward. The three trombones were stationed right in front of the male singers. The men were scarce enough as it was (the majority of the choir were women), and the two bassoons and three trombones were in the same range as the baritones. In the ensuing acoustical battle, the trombones won. At least there weren't SEVENTY SIX of them! In every other way, the concert was exquisite, and the choir, who are all amateurs, were superb.
My Dad loved the sound of an all-male choir, and sometimes dropped into a Russian Orthodox Church just to hear the choir with their deep bass voices. It didn't matter that it was during the heart of the Cold War, and anything "Russian" was considered suspect.
Another favorite of Dad's was movie that featured male singing was Zulu. At the end of the movie, the hugely outnumbered and defeated British Soldiers are treated to a Song from the Zulu Warriors, who praise their courage in the face of insurmountable odds.
This scene is the climax of an extremely brutal conflict, and shows how people can be enemies and still respect one another's bravery.
In no way does Jesus tells us that we will not have enemies. Life is full of them. More often than not, we will be called upon to defend our country, our faith, our communities, our families, and even ourselves. It's not about that. It is about our attitude toward our enemy that makes the difference. If we are consumed by hatred, indoctrinated by propaganda, and filled with loathing, we become ineffectual in protecting ourselves and our families.
Remember this when an enemy tries to use Jesus's own words against YOU. They are twisting Scripture to manipulate you. We will especially see that when we look at Tomorrow's Reading.
Remember, the same Bible that says "Love Your Enemy" also says, "Stand Firm...and put on the Whole Armor of God."
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
