You don’t deserve these troubles, Salamander.
Please call you local social services office and they can arrange all kinds of benefits for you. You may be eligible for food benefits, inexpensive senior housing through HUD (Many HUD apartments are quite nice),. low-cost medical care too. I don’t know of any way to help your dog, but call the SPCA, they probably do know.
Do you have any friends who can walk you through this? I pray that God will light your way to a safe and good future.

Salamander, Veto! has given you the best thing to do for yourself until you get on your feet. I’ve lost my husband also, but he set me up by saving in several ways, so I am able to live alone so far. I always want to advise people to become “savers”, even if it’s no more than a penny a day. Become addicted to saving some way. Don’t buy that candy bar. You don’t “need” it. Of course I learned that from birth because I was born in the middle of the Great Depression. There are a lot more government helps today.
Salalamander, of course my heart aches for your loss. It’s very hard to get through it, but you will, with the Lord’s help. Pray and believe.
