Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Luke 1

Zechariah’s Song

67 His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:

68  “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
    because he has come to his people and redeemed them.
69  He has raised up a horn[c] of salvation for us
    in the house of his servant David
70  (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),
71  salvation from our enemies
    and from the hand of all who hate us—
72  to show mercy to our ancestors
    and to remember his holy covenant,
73      the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
74  to rescue us from the hand of our enemies,
    and to enable us to serve him without fear
75      in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.
76  And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High;
    for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him,
77  to give his people the knowledge of salvation
    through the forgiveness of their sins,
78  because of the tender mercy of our God,
    by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
79  to shine on those living in darkness
    and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace.”
80 And the child grew and became strong in spirit[d]; and he lived in the wilderness until he appeared publicly to Israel.

a Luke 1:1 Or been surely believed
b Luke 1:35 Or So the child to be born will be called holy,

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God.
We Come into Your Presence With Singing
and Into Your Courts With Praise,
For Your Are Eternal,
Omnipotent, and Righteous,
Our Creator,
and The Creator of All That Is!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

A song that has become very popular on "Open Mike Night" is over 50 years old, and it was written by a group called "The Band". People LOVE this song and always sing along, even though most people have no idea what the song means, or even its Title.

People request it in different ways:

"Hey, could you play 'I pulled into Nazareth'?"

The Performer launches into the song, and everybody is happy.

Or, the audience member might say:

Could you play that song, 'Take a load off, Fanny'?"

No Problem! It's the same song.

Sometimes somebody may ask for "Put the load right on me", which are the LAST words in the song.

By far, the funniest request I ever got was "Hey, could you play that Christmas Song about pulling into Nazareth and there is no room at the inn (Hey mister can you tell me where a man might find a bed...No, was all he said..")

A line went through my head when I heard that request, but I didn't say it out loud:

(Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? NO!)

I did the song because I knew EXACTLY what song he was talking about.

For the record (pun intended), the name of the song is "The Weight". That word doesn't appear in either the verses or chorus, and the Nazareth in the song isn't Nazareth, Israel, but Nazareth, Pennsylvania, the home of the Martin Guitar Factory.

See why I love the Gospel of Luke? We have only read the first Chapter, and already we have two beautiful songs!

Once again, we can look to St. Jerome's monumental work, The Latin Vulgate. Mary's Prayer is called "The Magnificat" because that is the first word in her Song. Similarly, the first word in the Latin Vulgate for Zachariah's Song is "Bendictus", and so, that is what has become the Title of his Song.

Mary's Song is structured like a Psalm, and is similar to the Prayer of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1.

Zachariah's Song is structured more like a Prophecy and has many Old Testament References.

In his Prophetic Song, inspired by The Holy Spirit, Zachariah not only praises God for the Birth of John, but Prophecies the Birth of the Messiah. He calls John "The Prophet of the Most High", and then calls the unborn Jesus "The Son of the Most High". He then uses a Metaphor for Jesus, calling Him "The Rising Sun". This hearkens back to Numbers 24:17, Isaiah 9:2 and 60:1, and Malachi 4:2. Finally, Zachariah refers to the People who are awaiting Messiah as "The People living in darkness...". This is in harmony with Isaiah 9:1. (The people living in darkness have seen a great light...")

And that is weighty indeed.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 25

Of David.

1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
do not let my enemies exult over me.
3 Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
teach me your paths.
5 Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.

6 Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

8 Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
9 He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

11 For your name’s sake, O Lord,
pardon my guilt, for it is great.
12 Who are they that fear the Lord?
He will teach them the way that they should choose.

13 They will abide in prosperity,
and their children shall possess the land.
14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
and he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever towards the Lord,
for he will pluck my feet out of the net.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 Relieve the troubles of my heart,
and bring me* out of my distress.
18 Consider my affliction and my trouble,
and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider how many are my foes,
and with what violent hatred they hate me.
20 O guard my life, and deliver me;
do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I wait for you.

22 Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all its troubles.
