For the past few years, many in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) have disregarded numerous warnings of their own. Many in SBC leadership pay little attention to the cracks in the denomination’s core. The latest is Rick Warren’s decision to appeal the SBC’s decision to kick Saddleback Church out of the fellowship. This is a tsunami warning for the SBC. There are some in SBC circles who regard Warren’s commitment to installing three women pastors at Saddleback Church as a clear violation of Scripture and the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
The crucial question is: Will the SBC heed the most recent tsunami warning and stand on the high ground of Scripture, or will a tsunami wave of egalitarianism destroy its shores?

Good essay. I’m not a Southern Baptist but I have watched what’s been going on especially about Saddleback with some concern. This guy Virgil Walker articulates that well.
Our pastor is right on the edge of withdrawing the church from the SBC. If the vote about Saddleback a few weeks ago had gone the other way, he would have.
I have issues with the SBC in general (too much hierarchy), so we won’t officially join the church, but this church is the best we’ve found in the area when it comes to traditional, fundamental preaching and music.
Though never an SBC member (was a part of an ABC church for a spell), staying clear of Warren’s ilk is a good measure...
Finding the best church amidst the wreckage of many others is the way of it for many of us these days.
“Finding the best church amidst the wreckage of many others is the way of it for many of us these days.”
And we’re in eastern TN, the buckle of the Bible Belt. There are street corners with LITERALLY four signs for different Baptist churches pointing in different directions. One corner out in the middle of nowhere has five signs! It took us 10 years to find a GOOD church.

Heck, we are in the heart of central Texas and finding a GOOD church is an ordeal...
I never could stand Warren. It’s not a good idea to put faith in humans.
Lutherans and Presbyterians went through the divorce decades ago; it helps clarity to let the heretics have their own denomination on the hell side of the river. The Methodists and Baptists are finally catching up. If the Catholics weren’t so concerned about being, well, Catholic, they could spue out their heretics and get back to the business of building the Kingdom.
The Methodists are contemplating a breakup.
I tell my Methodist friends that it is a once in a lifetime opportunity - to shed the ponderous overhead of the extreme liberal ruling structure!
Eject the ruling elites and be free.
We’re so spoiled. We took the pastor and the music program with us - wherever we went !!!

I thought his metaphor was too wordy and actually became the top, hence confusing. A good metaphor is short and to the point.
Yes, we did. We WERE the music program! 😁
Dogmatic drip drip drip...
The insidious leak of departing churchgoers. Churchianaty is writhing in its own inglorious lies.
Our church is in the same boat. Any drift to the left or non-Biblical doctrine, and we are gone.
God did not send us his only begotten daughter.
My church will hold a disaffiliation vote on 21 May. Prayers appreciated.

He must be writing a sequel to the Profit Driven Church......
