Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 13

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times

13 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!”

2 “Do you see all these great buildings?” replied Jesus. “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately, 4 “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?”

5 Jesus said to them: “Watch out that no one deceives you. 6 Many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many. 7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.

9 “You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. 10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. 11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

12 “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. 13 Everyone will hate you because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

14 “When you see ‘the abomination that causes desolation’[a] standing where it[b] does not belong—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out. 16 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 18 Pray that this will not take place in winter, 19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until now—and never to be equaled again.

20 “If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them. 21 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.

24 “But in those days, following that distress,

“‘the sun will be darkened,

    and the moon will not give its light;

25  the stars will fall from the sky,

    and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[c]

26 “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.

28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it[d] is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven
How Holy and Blessed is Your Wonderful Name!
How Precious,
Hallowed,
Righteous,
and Exalted.
We Thank You profoundly for giving us this deep insight into the Future Through Your Holy Word.
Dear Father,
Give us Courage and Conviction to do what is right,
When it is so Easy to Make Excuses,
Pass the buck,
Blame someone else,
and Sandbag Your Perfect Plan for Our Lives!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

A custom evolved in Massachusetts back in the 1980's. It was possibly a National Trend, but I have not seen it in other states, so I don't know if you have experienced it. Many times while driving, either on the bike or in my car, a driver in an oncoming vehicle would flash their high beams quickly at me. At first, I had no idea what this meant. Then, about a half-mile down the road, I would spy a Police Car, lurking in the shadows, waiting to catch a speeder. The oncoming driver had noticed the Speed Trap, and was warning drivers to SLOW DOWN.

There were two schools of thought on this. The oncoming driver, by warning me that there was a Speed Trap ahead, was doing me a kindness. I realized that I had to slow down. This made the roads safer. If everybody who saw the flash slowed down together, the traffic would flow at a reasonable pace, and nobody would be pulled over for a ticket. Civilization and Courtesy win.

However, there was another school of thought. No Speeding Tickets meant a loss of revenue for the municipality. If everybody obeyed the Speed Limit, and were Courteous to one another on the road, there would be no use for a Speed Trap. That would mean that there would be a lot of wasted hours for Law Enforcement and the budget might be trimmed to compensate for the loss of revenue.

Good Ol' Massachusetts had a solution for that. They made "flashing" ILLEGAL. Anyone warning an oncoming driver was now breaking the law.

Public Safety is very important, and excessive speeding is dangerous, but this was a whole different animal.

I don't know if the law still exists, but I still sometimes get "flashed" on the road, and, a half-mile later, see the Police Cruiser. If the oncoming driver had actually risked getting a ticket himself, to warn a complete stranger, then perhaps there is hope for humanity...even in Massachusetts!

Matthew, Mark, and Luke all portray a very special sermon of Jesus called "The Olivet Discourse". This is because the sermon was delivered to His disciples while sitting on the Mount of Olives, looking across the valley to the City of Jerusalem. Clearly visible was the Second Temple, made of huge Herodian dressed stone. The stone of Jerusalem is creamy white, with a pink glow that is especially rosy looking at Sunrise and Sunset. I imagine that the disciples were awed by the sight, their thoughts speeding along, as they rhapsodized about the vista like gaping tourists.

Then Jesus flashes the headlights at them and says: "SLOW DOWN"...

“Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

This was a prophecy about the Destruction of the Temple, which would occur soon, in about forty years. It is the first prophecy in the Olivet Discourse, and was proven right in 70AD.

The second prophecy in the Olivet Discourse concerns the False teachers and False Christs who would come and go. There have been plenty of those in History, but, with the advances in Telecommunications, they seem to be even more ubiquitous these days.

The third prophecy has not yet been fulfilled, no matter what some sects and denominations may say. Jesus has not yet returned to earth "in the same manner" as He ascended to Heaven in the First Chapter of Acts. When He DOES, there will be no questions or debate about it.

Next, Jesus gives us the Lesson of The Fig Tree. Since the Fig Tree represents Israel, many Bible Scholars have interpreted "The Budding of The Fig Tree" as the foundation of the Modern State of Israel. Then, again, there are quite a few scholars who say it is NOT. I personally DO.

Finally, there is the Exhortation to be Watchful. Prophecies 3 and 4 could happen any minute. And, in my humble opinion, it would not be a minute too soon.

Keep Looking Up.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Here in NH you just have to worry about obeying the speed suggestions in the small towns. Unless you have a NY or MA plate on your car.

When people flash you on the back roads, it’s more than likely not a flock of turkeys crossing the road, or may deer in the area or a downed tree.

It’s a different world here.

Psalm 31

To the leader. A Psalm of David.

1 In you, O Lord, I seek refuge;
do not let me ever be put to shame;
in your righteousness deliver me.
2 Incline your ear to me;
rescue me speedily.
Be a rock of refuge for me,
a strong fortress to save me.

3 You are indeed my rock and my fortress;
for your name’s sake lead me and guide me,
4 take me out of the net that is hidden for me,
for you are my refuge.
5 Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God.

6 You hate* those who pay regard to worthless idols,
but I trust in the Lord.
7 I will exult and rejoice in your steadfast love,
because you have seen my affliction;
you have taken heed of my adversities,
8 and have not delivered me into the hand of the enemy;
you have set my feet in a broad place.

9 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in distress;
my eye wastes away from grief,
my soul and body also.
10 For my life is spent with sorrow,
and my years with sighing;
my strength fails because of my misery,*
and my bones waste away.

11 I am the scorn of all my adversaries,
a horror* to my neighbours,
an object of dread to my acquaintances;
those who see me in the street flee from me.
12 I have passed out of mind like one who is dead;
I have become like a broken vessel.
13 For I hear the whispering of many—
terror all around!—
as they scheme together against me,
as they plot to take my life.

14 But I trust in you, O Lord;
I say, ‘You are my God.’
15 My times are in your hand;
deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.
16 Let your face shine upon your servant;
save me in your steadfast love.
17 Do not let me be put to shame, O Lord,
for I call on you;
let the wicked be put to shame;
let them go dumbfounded to Sheol.
18 Let the lying lips be stilled
that speak insolently against the righteous
with pride and contempt.

19 O how abundant is your goodness
that you have laid up for those who fear you,
and accomplished for those who take refuge in you,
in the sight of everyone!
20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them
from human plots;
you hold them safe under your shelter
from contentious tongues.

21 Blessed be the Lord,
for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me
when I was beset as a city under siege.
22 I had said in my alarm,
‘I am driven far* from your sight.’
But you heard my supplications
when I cried out to you for help.

23 Love the Lord, all you his saints.
The Lord preserves the faithful,
but abundantly repays the one who acts haughtily.
24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
all you who wait for the Lord.

And side note. In my state too, I Always remembered and appreciated the courteous signals. My Dad even explained them to me when I was very young.

The word for “Generation” also means “race or ethnicity”, so it could be a long time.

I don’t even have to wear a helmet in NH. But I do, anyway. I’ve grown quite attached to my brain and don’t want to damage it.
