You don't win a court case by proving someone ALLEGEDLY did something, you win it by proving that THEY DID IT. It's also a redundancy because the suit in itself is A DE FACTO ALLEGATION, so you're needlessly soft-pedaling by stating the plaintiff is suing then for ALLEGEDLY doing something.
They obviously don't pay reporters enough to afford a Chicago Style Guide any more.
