Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 12

Marriage at the Resurrection

18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection[c] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”

24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’[d]? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Holy and Sanctified is Your Most Wonderful Name!
You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The Most High!
You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham,
You Are The Ancient Of Days,

LORD of Hosts,
And Rock of All Ages,
Our Creator,
Have Made Us, and All That Is.
You Are The Same Yesterday,
Today, and Forever.
Your Loving Kindness Is from Everlasting To Everlasting.
Even When We Are Unfaithful,
You Are Always Faithful.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

A few years ago, there was a Video that went viral of the Winners of a Debate Contest. My generation had been out of Academia for so long that we had not realized what a current-day "Debate Contest" looked like. The scene was one of utter chaos as each contestant shouted a breathless word salad that didn't make any point at all, but merely was a competition as to who could cram as many shouted words into the allotted time. It was hilarious in its absurdity. Unfortunately, since all of the contestants were African-American, the video engendered many racist comments. The video had to be edited to show only the contestants accepting the trophies, which they did with humble, normal English. This proved that the debate was merely a "style". Sadly, this "style" was being rewarded by Academia, so I really can't blame the students. This is what they are being taught.

I have encountered this in my own discussions with people who are considered on the Left of the Political Spectrum. The breathless streams of "word salad", the interruptions, the "What Abouts", the "What Ifs" and other techniques leave no room for a reasoned discussion. I struggled with this for a long time, until I found out that this is an actual Technique that is taught in College. It is called "Jamming", and it is real.

From the reading of the Gospels, we see that this kind of debating technique is nothing new. Today's Passage is a case in point.

The Pharisees and the Sadducees were the two major religious parties in Israel at the time. The Pharisees believed in the law and the Prophets, believed in the Afterlife, and strove to please God by strict adherence to the Law. They were so meticulous about the Law that they created more Laws in order to keep them. They accepted Oral Tradition, even as it was growing to accommodate adherence to the Law of Moses.

The Sadducees, on the other hand, believed in the Law of Moses, but not in the Afterlife. That's why this question posed to Jesus was immediately perceived as insincere. If a Pharisee had asked that question, it may have made sense, but, coming from a Sadducee, was obviously spurious.

Nevertheless, Jesus used that opportunity to give us all a wonderful insight as to what we can expect in the World to Come. Even though the Question was insincere, the Answer was Truthful and Beautiful.

So, like a politician in a debate, I am going to say to those Sadducees:

"I'm glad you asked that question."

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 85

To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.

1 Lord, you were favourable to your land;
you restored the fortunes of Jacob.
2 You forgave the iniquity of your people;
you pardoned all their sin.
Selah
3 You withdrew all your wrath;
you turned from your hot anger.

4 Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
and put away your indignation towards us.
5 Will you be angry with us for ever?
Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
6 Will you not revive us again,
so that your people may rejoice in you?
7 Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
and grant us your salvation.

8 Let me hear what God the Lord will speak,
for he will speak peace to his people,
to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.*
9 Surely his salvation is at hand for those who fear him,
that his glory may dwell in our land.

10 Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet;
righteousness and peace will kiss each other.
11 Faithfulness will spring up from the ground,
and righteousness will look down from the sky.
12 The Lord will give what is good,
and our land will yield its increase.
13 Righteousness will go before him,
and will make a path for his steps.
