Free speech campaigners warn Dr Aaron Edwards’ dismissal for allegedly bringing Methodist college ‘into disrepute’ sets a ‘dark precedent’
A Christian theology lecturer has been sacked and claims he was threatened with a counter-terrorism referral by a college after tweeting that “homosexuality is invading the church”.
Dr Aaron Edwards, 37, a father of five, was dismissed last week for misconduct by Cliff College, a Methodist college in Derbyshire, after he allegedly brought the college “into disrepute” on social media, The Telegraph has learnt.
The lecturer was told by the college that he could be reported to Prevent, the Government’s counter-extremism programme, and asked how he would pray for same-sex attracted students who approach him for prayer, according to minutes from the college’s disciplinary hearing.

Everyone is throwing the word “terrorist” around like it means “christian”, “white”, “conservative”....
United Methodist leadership is in for a rude awakening. At least half of the member churches are planning or actively involved in disassociating from the denomination over the primary issue of legitimizing homosexuality. This has been long in coming. Leadership has been corrupt and indifferent to Christ’s mission for decades.
I’m sorry, but homosexuality doesn’t invade churches that preach the Word faithfully and practice church discipline. Have a cup of coffee with pastors that practice it and find out how they do it.

Homosexuality isn’t “invading” his church, it has completely conquered it.
Homosexuals infiltrating and picking up where earlier unbelievers (”modernists”) stumbled a century ago when Fosdick overestimated their success and alerted those who still believed to that agenda.
Not all congregations are apostate.
And no unrepentant homosexual (or any other unrepentant person) is a part of Christ’s true Church that He is saving.
Well said. The antidote is the Scripture that proclaims the only Gospel.
About a century ago a fella by the name of Harry Emerson Fosdick had, as a “modernist”, been laboring to draw away the congregation he was at and there were many other such men all across the land teaching error.
But Fosdick misjudged his congregation and let the cat out of the bag with the result being that he lost his job and those who had departed from the faith became known in many places (see 1 Corinthians 11:19).
What we see now, this falling away of what had already fallen away, is the same.
I meant his particular “church” not The Church.
