Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 11

The Authority of Jesus Questioned

27 They arrived again in Jerusalem, and while Jesus was walking in the temple courts, the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders came to him. 28 “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you authority to do this?”

29 Jesus replied, “I will ask you one question. Answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 30 John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin? Tell me!”

31 They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 32 But if we say, ‘Of human origin’ …” (They feared the people, for everyone held that John really was a prophet.)

33 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”

Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Excellent,
How Glorious,
How Majestic,
Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
The Earth is Yours,
The Heavens,
And the Vast Expanses of Space,

You Created it All,

And it is All Under Your Control.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

33 So they answered Jesus, “We don't know.”

Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

Today's Reading, along with the Parallel Passages in Matthew 21:23-27 and Luke 20:1-8, always make me smile. To this day, I remember laughing out loud the first time I read it, sitting in the dining room, reading the Gospels straight through for the first time. Jesus answered a question with a question, and presented an "either/or" alternative that left the Pharisees in a dilemma. They chose not to answer at all, and Jesus returned the favor.

I don't think that Jesus would have been so brusque if it had been a sincere question. We know from context that the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law were always presenting Him with GOTCHA questions. Questions about the Temple Tax, Roman Taxes, Dining with Sinners, etc, were met with a Parable, a thought-provokng question, or even an open rebuke. On the other hand, requests for healing, forgiveness, and restoration were met with dramatically different responses. Sometimes Jesus used the request to teach a point, but He healed all who asked Him, even the Canaanite Woman with their discussions about puppies and crumbs. Sometimes a request would bring about an opportunity to teach a very important point, but Jesus didn't refuse people if the request was sincere.

In this case, Jesus saw right through the questioner, and beat him at his own game.

Who ever said that there isn't any humor in the Bible?

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 47

To the leader. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.

1 Clap your hands, all you peoples;
shout to God with loud songs of joy.
2 For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome,
a great king over all the earth.
3 He subdued peoples under us,
and nations under our feet.
4 He chose our heritage for us,
the pride of Jacob whom he loves.
Selah

5 God has gone up with a shout,
the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises;
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the king of all the earth;
sing praises with a psalm.*

8 God is king over the nations;
God sits on his holy throne.
9 The princes of the peoples gather
as the people of the God of Abraham.
For the shields of the earth belong to God;
he is highly exalted.

Who ever said that there isn't any humor in the Bible?

And since there is humor in the Bible, then there must be humor in heaven. Sign me up.

AMEN!

Thank you.
Special Prayers up for all the Christians to be delivered from the persecution everywhere. And from the new laws against them in Israel.

I heard that such a law has been proposed by two ultra-orthodox in the Knesset. Hopefully it will not pass.
