Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 9
Causing to Stumble
42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. [44] [b] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. [46] [c] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where
“‘the worms that eat them do not die,
and the fire is not quenched.’[d]
49 Everyone will be salted with fire.
50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”_______________________________________________________

and Bless Your Name Continuously,
And Thank Your Profoundly for Your Word.

You Are The Creator, Preserver, and Destroyer of Worlds.
You are The Alpha and The Omega,
The Beginning and The End.
Thank You For Giving Us Your Word,
And Insight Into Your Eternal and Unspeakable Glory!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Tina, at age ten, was such a good guitar student that she could play "Hotel California" on Guitar. This is a very difficult song with up to ten chords, and no real way to simplify it, if one wants to do it correctly. She wanted to do the song in her recital (for bragging rights!) and was very insistent that she be the one to sing it as well. To be able to play this complex song and sing it at the same time would be an awesome feat, but there was a catch. The first verse contained the word "hell", and she had been forbidden by her Mom to say either "hell" or "damn". These were considered "Curse Words". Well, I certainly didn't want her to go against her Mom, so I suggested that we change the lyric from
"I was thinking to myself,
This could be Heaven or this could be Hell"
to:
"I was thinking to myself,
This is not going to go well"
It scanned the meter fine, and expressed a similar thought. But this would spoil the song, she insisted.
Then I suggested she discuss it with Mom and explain that, in the Lyric, "Hell" was being described as a place, as opposed to "Heaven". So, in context, it wasn't a "Curse Word" but a proper noun. But she wanted her triumphant presentation of this difficult song in the recital to be a Surprise, so there would be no prior consultation with Mom.
I told her that if she didn't solve this dilemma, she would have to choose a different song. I suggested "Angie" or "Wild Horses", both of which were equally challenging and contained no curse words. One thing I did NOT want to do is encourage this child to disobey her Mom for the sake of a song lyric.
The Day of The Big Recital arrived. Tina arrived in a beautiful dress, little heels, and subtle make-up. She looked so beautiful as she plugged in her Stratocaster and played the iconic opening strains of "Hotel California".
I held my breath, not knowing what she was going to do, and I got very nervous. All the Moms and Dads and Grandparents in the audience were astounded that she was going to sing such a difficult song.
When she got to the offending lyric, she leaned back from the microphone and whispered "Hehh" instead of "Hell". She looked like any other Rock Star moving around at the mike and sometimes slurring words. She got thunderous applause at the end of the nearly eight minute song, and nobody knew what agonies I had gone through because I did not want to make "one of these little ones stumble". I take the words of Jesus VERY seriously!
Jesus used the Literary Form of Hyperbole to make an important point. Everybody has habits and preferences that can lead us into sin. These habits and preferences can be as precious to us as our eyes or our hands. They may be innocuous in and of themselves, but if they cause us to sin, it is better to get rid of them entirely. Sometimes, getting rid of the temptation is so difficult that it feels like you're cutting off your hand or plucking out your eyes.
One of the traps we all fall into from time to time is The "Sunk Cost Trap". (Also called the "Previous Investment Trap". This is a scenario where one makes a poor decision to continue in a losing venture because one has already invested so much into it. Sometimes it is a simple thing, like leaving a group, resigning from a job, or cutting the cable. If any of these cause you to sin, then, no matter how much you have invested in it, it's time to cut it off. Jesus uses the example of your eyes and your hands, which are more precious to you than anything else, except your Relationship with God.
Unlike The Hotel California, where
"You can check out any time you like,
but you can never leave..",
You CAN leave. Jesus gives us the power and strength to do that.

Psalm 110
Of David. A Psalm.
1 The Lord says to my lord,
‘Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies your footstool.’
2 The Lord sends out from Zion
your mighty sceptre.
Rule in the midst of your foes.
3 Your people will offer themselves willingly
on the day you lead your forces
on the holy mountains.*
From the womb of the morning,
like dew, your youth* will come to you.
4 The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest for ever according to the order of Melchizedek.’*
5 The Lord is at your right hand;
he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath.
6 He will execute judgement among the nations,
filling them with corpses;
he will shatter heads
over the wide earth.
7 He will drink from the stream by the path;
therefore he will lift up his head.
