Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 9
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time
30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise.” 32 But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
33 They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”
36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Blessed and Glorious is Your Most Wonderful and Holy Name!
How Perfect Your Plan and Your Promise,
And How Magnificent Your Precepts and Your Provision.
You See The Beginning From The End,
And The End from The Beginning.
You Are Not Bound By Time And Space,
Because You Created Them in The First Place!
We are so quick to second-guess Your Plan,
to try an "figure You out",
to "Put You on Our Schedule",
When what we SHOULD do is
Fall on our Faces Before You and Worship You,
With Our Whole Heart,
Our Whole Mind,
and Our Whole Being!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

I don't know how he did it, but my Dad got tickets to see Pavarotti at Symphony Hall in Boston. He took my two younger sisters, who were still just teenagers, to the concert. While they were waiting in line to go in, they saw some people carrying signs. Thinking that these people were either protesters or scalpers, Dad hustled the girls past, avoiding the signs. Patty, the youngest saw what the signs said:
I WILL GIVE YOU $500 FOR A TICKET.
"Look Dad!" the youngest cried out. "Let's sell him our tickets! That's a lot of money!"
"Absolutely NOT!" Dad said. "We may never get this chance again, and Pavarotti is THE GREATEST TENOR THAT EVER LIVED!"
The concert was wonderful, and both my sisters cherish the memory.
All my life, I had heard that Enrico Caruso was "THE GREATEST TENOR THAT EVER LIVED", but I had never heard him sing. His recordings were only available on 78RPM Records, and Dad's Stereo only played 33RPM LP's. It wasn't until I worked in a Nursing Home that I found some 78s of Caruso. This way so exciting! I was finally going to get to hear "THE GREATEST TENOR THAT EVER LIVED!"I cranked up the Victrola that stood in the corner of the Activities Room and listened carefully, taking the antique styles and mannerisms, and poor recording techniques into consideration.
I'm sorry. Your mileage may differ, but in no way was Caruso "THE GREATEST TENOR THAT EVER LIVED". Just my opinion, though some may consider it blasphemy.
One of the most amazing Boxers of the mid-20th Century was a man named Cassius Clay. He embraced Islam and changed his name to Mohammad Ali. He was a great boxer, and won a Gold Medal in the 1960 Olympics when he was only 18 years old. Because of his prowess in the ring, or perhaps in spite of it, the boxer became arrogant. He began to refer to HIMSELF as "The GREATEST". Some saw him as a hero, others as a villain. What is beyond dispute is that he became very sick and frail later in life, and became almost a pathetic figure. Those who remembered him as "THE GREATEST" could barely look at him without feeling sorrow and pain at his decline. While he may have been "THE GREATEST" at one time, there will be others who will strive to break his record and become the new champion.
Babe Ruth was considered the greatest baseball player that ever lived. However, over the years, other ball players have broken Babe Ruth's record. In many people's minds, Caruso, Ali, and Ruth are "The Greatest", but, just like the Eagles Song goes:
"...they'll never forget you,
Till somebody else comes along..."
( from "New Kid In Town" c The Eagles)
It's human nature to rank people and designate one as "The Greatest". I suppose it's normal to do that, but I can't imagine arguing over such a thing while walking with, IN PERSON, the King of the Universe. It boggles my mind. Yet, here we see the disciples of Jesus doing that very thing.
By showing them that the weakest members of society are the Greatest in the Kingdom, Jesus turns Human Nature on its head and gives us a glimpse into the heart of God.

Amen !!! <><
Psalm 141
A Psalm of David.
1 I call upon you, O Lord; come quickly to me;
give ear to my voice when I call to you.
2 Let my prayer be counted as incense before you,
and the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice.
3 Set a guard over my mouth, O Lord;
keep watch over the door of my lips.
4 Do not turn my heart to any evil,
to busy myself with wicked deeds
in company with those who work iniquity;
do not let me eat of their delicacies.
5 Let the righteous strike me;
let the faithful correct me.
Never let the oil of the wicked anoint my head,*
for my prayer is continually* against their wicked deeds.
6 When they are given over to those who shall condemn them,
then they shall learn that my words were pleasant.
7 Like a rock that one breaks apart and shatters on the land,
so shall their bones be strewn at the mouth of Sheol.*
8 But my eyes are turned towards you, O God, my Lord;
in you I seek refuge; do not leave me defenceless.
9 Keep me from the trap that they have laid for me,
and from the snares of evildoers.
10 Let the wicked fall into their own nets,
while I alone escape.

. . . when I was a kid, in an Italian family, Sunday was Macaroni/Spaghetti and Meatball day all the while, my father, (basically already drunk) would play a Caruso album full volume and sing to boot. That made the whole scene the worst let alone the “Least” of our Sunday Dinner. haha. Thank for the memory. BTW, Dad died of alcoholism, but prior to his death, in a hospital bed, with his daughter, (me) asked Jesus for forgiveness and prayed to him. Hoping to meet again in SONGS of PRAISE to our KING. Love, Jean

So, I’m not the only one on the planet that doesn’t think Caruso was “THE GREATEST TENOR THAT EVER LIVED”?
Thank you for your story, Jean.
