Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God!

Sanctified and Holy is Your Most Hallowed Name.
How Excellent,
How Wonderful,
How Perfect You Are!
My Heart is Overwhelmed With Your Glory,
Your Magnificence,
and Your Power!
When I think of how Awesome You Are,
Of How You Transcend Time and Space,
Of How You Created Everything That Is and Ever Was,
Of How You Tell History From the Beginning to The End
and the End to The Beginning,
Of How You Give us a Glimpse into Your Infinite Mind
Through Your Holy and Unchanging Word,
How You Are Faithful To Your Promises Even When We Fall Away,
And How You Fulfill Every Jot and Tittle of Your Precepts,
When we ourselves fall so short of the target,
I just have to stop everything,
And say, "How Great and AWESOME YOU ARE!"

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

It isn't often that I get a phone call about the contents of this Daily Thread, but yesterday, I did. It was from my friend Skip, who was the one who led me to Christ, and gave me my first Bible, over forty years ago. He had a story about "Diagramming Sentences", and gave me permission to share it with you.

Skip went to the Boston Public Schools and was in the Sixth Grade when he landed in a class with a particularly strict and humorless male teacher. This teacher even used the Rattan on occasion, and nobody messed with him, even though boys in the Sixth Grade can be very difficult. This teacher had a special delight in singling out kids to go up in the front of the class and diagram sentences on the blackboard. He designated three boys (Skip was the third one), and, wrote a sentence on the board, called each boy one-by-one up front and had him diagram it in front of the whole class.

The first sentence was written, and the first boy went up, drew the lines, and diagrammed the sentence. The teacher corrected any mistakes, erased the board, and sent the boy back to his seat.

Then the teacher wrote the second sentence. The second boy in the queue went up, drew the lines, diagrammed the sentence, got corrected, and sat down. As the teacher was erasing the second boy's exercise, Skip squirmed in his seat. The sentences were getting progressively more difficult, and he was NEXT.

Suddenly, a man came to the door and called the teacher out into the corridor, closing the door behind him. The kids sat in silence, not daring to make noise, as the teacher was right outside the door. For Skip, the tension was mounting.

The teacher finally came back in, visibly shaken, his face drained of color, and he couldn't even speak. Shaking, he went up to the blackboard and wrote:

"PRESIDENT KENNEDY HAS BEEN SHOT."

Skip leaped out of his seat, went up to the blackboard, drew the lines, and diagrammed the sentence.

Most of us are of a certain age that we can remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news of JFK's assassination. Most of us can also remember being so stunned by the news that we automatically thought that it was something else, like a sentence to be diagrammed. (I thought that the teacher was talking about the President of the SCHOOL when she told us.) Our finite minds have to adjust to such unbelievable things, and the way we do that is by supplying alternate explanations. The TRUTH is sometimes too big to digest.

This is the place where Peter found himself when Jesus spoke of His impending Death. It was one thing to imagine Jesus as The Conquering Messiah. It was quite another to imagine Him as the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53.

In this brief Passage from Mark, Jesus tells His disciples that there would be some who would see the Glory of God within their lifetimes. This was to be fulfilled in the very next paragraph, which I will share tomorrow. The Revelation will be so shattering, that Peter will not be able to digest it, and will come up with an alternate explanation. He will, in fact, try to "Diagram the Sentence."

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Best explanation I’ve heard for the disciples’ inability to fathom Jesus’ self-sacrifice. They simply couldn’t yet quite grasp it. As there are so many today who have not. I call them “pre-believers”.

AMEN!

Psalm 46

To the leader. Of the Korahites. According to Alamoth. A Song.

1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present* help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
3 though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
Selah

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
5 God is in the midst of the city;* it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
6 The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.*
Selah

8 Come, behold the works of the Lord;
see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 ‘Be still, and know that I am God!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.’
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.*
Selah
