Roche has issued his decree. Now let him enforce it.

If the Vatican gets what it is asking for, it will be boom times for the SSPX.

This is my #1 problem I, a Protestant, have with the Catholic beliefs. It's not that some of your beliefs are different from mine, it's that so many of your beliefs and practices aren't "official" unless a "real" leader implements it.

As long as you believe the eucharist becomes the flesh and blood of Jesus only if an "official" priest hands out the elements, then the RCC leaders have a control over you.

As long as you believe absolution from purgatory happens only at the blessing of an "official" priest, then the RCC leaders have a control over you.

If it wasn't for that, then most of the Catholic beliefs would be little different from beliefs of fellow Protestants I disagree with (i.e. I don't believe in Calvinism, nor that the initial evidence of Spirit baptism is speaking in tongues, or that the earth is only 6,000 years old, etc.). Hint: one of those is believed by my own pastor, but he doesn't make a big deal of it and has mentioned it only in passing twice maybe in 10 years. Evidently it's not a big deal with him either.

In many ways, the RCC belief that these things happen only with an "official" priest makes it a lot harder for the righteous Catholics to get the necessary reforms. In contrast, look at all of the Methodist churches that voted their local congregation away from the hedonist United Methodist conference. Their wayward leaders had little control over the good members, of which there were many (evidently). I hope the good Catholics can figure out a way to do the same.

A question to Catholics. What would the Pope have to do for you to switch churches? Is there anything?

Best solution? Ignore it. What one \pope has decreed, a future pope can wipe away. Francis has made this perfectly clear, if nothing else.

Part of a deliberate enterprise of purging the church of all traditionalists? Or is that crazy talk?
