PatriotandLiberty Blog ^ | Feb. 13, 2023 | Matt Lamb

Federal agencies have long targeted social conservatives, so of course Latin Mass Catholics are on their bad-guy list. So are all serious Christians.

Intelligence analysts and the chief counsel for the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Richmond, Virginia field office are concerned “radical-traditionalist Catholics” are a threat to our democracy and could be ripe for recruitment by white supremacists.

1. You’re white.
2. You’re a Christian.
3. You don’t like the FBI kicking in your door in the middle of the night and dragging you away for no reason.

The FRBI’s “reliable” source, the SPLC, has repeatedly placed the “Singing Nuns” on its hate group map.

I think these days, a record of making bombs puts you on their list of people they’re mostly likely to recruit.

You believe schools concentrate on the 3 “R’s” and not gay day, crt, etc, and kids are born girls and boys.

Latin Mass is not “popular”, as in a fad. Rather, one should more appropriately refer to it as proper.

It irritates me when someone of any political persuasion uses the term "red scare" to tag anything that they want to classify as overblown.

We damn well had a problem with communists burrowed into all levels of our government back in the Thirties, Forties, and early Fifties.

There were now obvious people like Alger Hiss at the State Department; Harry Dexter White, assistant secretary of the Treasury Department (later appointed to the International Monetary Fund by President Truman) Lauchlin Currie, personal assistant to President Roosevelt and White House liaison to the State Department under both Roosevelt and Truman; Laurence Duggan, head of the Latin American Desk at the State Department; Frank Coe, US representative on the International Monetary Fund; Solomon Adler, senior Treasury Department official; Klaus Fuchs, top atomic scientist; and Duncan Lee, senior aide to the head of the OSS.

This doesn't even mention the Vice President Henry Wallace, or Roosevelt's most trusted and confidential aide, Harry Hopkins, who was obliquely illuminated in the Venona decryptions (Soviet Diplomatic Code we broke) where, even though he was not specifically named in the Soviet intelligence report as a source, he is the only one who it could have been due to information he passed on a confidential conversation between Churchill and Roosevelt, and he was the only third party in the room. That may be thin gruel to some, but people have been rightfully suspicious of him since he took his place at Roosevelt's side.

Using "red scare" in any context displays a fundamental ignorance.

I read the article and understand the context she uses it in. She is right to point out that the Left is engaging in the same "tactics" Sen. Joseph McCarthy is accused of engaging in, but with this passage she simply and ignorantly accepts the premise of the Left:

"But the reaction from too many Democrats and their MSM stenographers has been one more reminiscent of Joe McCarthy and the red scare era in the 50s. Rather than demanding answers, these critics are attacking the witnesses and labeling people “Putin apologists” and all sorts of other names. As Turley puts it, “the red scare is back and it is going blue.”

Jazz Shaw is right to point out that shameless behavior on the part of the Left. But to accept the anti-McCarthy premise (which she does explicitly in the passage above) that what went on during the McCarthy Era was a politically motivated and baseless "Red Scare" is damaging and ignorant.

I think the more basic reason is not wanting people reading, believing and following the Scriptures instead of the government,

“Federal agencies have long targeted social conservatives, so of course Latin Mass Catholics are on their bad-guy list.”

Excluding the Catholics here on FR, I have to say the devoted traditional Catholics I know personally are absolutely NOT social conservatives. They donate to Emily’s List, want 100% government healthcare, and vote strict RAT line.

“Then they aren’t Catholics.”

They think they are. One was in the priesthood for a few years. They might not be Christians, but they never miss a mass.

Anyone who uses “McCarthyism” as a pejorative is either shamefully ignorant, a propagandist for the Left, or both.

McCarthy was right. M. Stanton Evans documented it.

You are misunderstanding the term traditional Catholics. This is about the subset of Catholics who adhere to the 1962 Missal, keep the traditional devotions, abstain from meat on all Fridays of the year, etc... True Catholics that keep the faith and believe. You are not going to find Biden, Coexist or any leftwing bumper stickers in their Church's parking lots.
