My third son.
Sonogram showed he had a 2-vessel umbilical cord. They wanted to do an amniocentesis to determine the scope of his abnormalities so I could “explore my options.”
When I insisted that God gave me my son, their job was to help him be born alive, and I would care for him afterwards, the doctor turned to the nurse and muttered, “She’s one of those.”
Damn right I am.
My boy is 17, extremely smart, loving, straight A student, with a super sweet, very pretty 19 year old girlfriend who can’t wait to marry him. He already has an internship lined up at a tech company.
God knew what He was doing.
No, we don’t all have DNR’s. Some of us, admittedly only a few, realize that machines help in the shortrun, and save lives. Very few are used in the longrun. They are expensive.
When death is inevitable, it happens despite the best laid plans of mice and men.
So shocking a doctor could be so calloused and heardhearted.
I’m glad you stepped forward like a man and your son is well!
Considering I’m his Mom, I’ll take that as a compliment. :).
Shocked me, too. He wasn’t my regular doctor. My OBGYN is part of the Physicians For Life.
It’s well past time we listed Canada as a major human rights abuser. It’s right there with China.
You’re kidding yourself if you think medical staff in America don’t routinely take measures (active or passive) they know will shorten patient’s lives. Call it a DNR, palliative sedation, living will/AHCD, or taking someone off life support while their heart is still beating, the result is the same. Nature didn’t claim that life, a medical professional surrendered it.
DNR is not the same as euthanasia, is my understanding.
All good, my friend. I’m often mistaken for a man on FR. My screen name is neutral and my posts apparently convey a masculine tone.
Certainly, any soft, feminine traits go right out the window when my children are involved and I perceive a threat to their health and safety. Forget about Momma Grizzly. I’m the nuclear-bomb-laden Apache-helicopter-flying biblical vengeance level Mom.
The best kind!!
A DNR means Do No Resuscitate
No CPR if they fail or their heart stops
It is the choice to die naturally, and many good Catholics choose it.
It is not euthanasia.
That is putting a person to sleep like a dog.
It is evil.
