Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 3
Jesus Accused by His Family and by Teachers of the Law

20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his family[b] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”

23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house. 28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”

30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”

31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”

33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.

34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent,
How Wonderful,
How Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
The Earth is Yours,
and Everything in it,
The Seas, the Mountains, the Plants, and Every Living Creature.
It Is You Who Created Them All,
And You Know Them All by Name.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

A famous book by Oscar Wilde has been made into a movie several times. With the advancements in film-making techniques, the special effects in each succeeding movie have gotten more and more realistic and horrifying. The book was titled, "The Picture of Dorian Grey". It told the story of an handsome youth (Dorian) who was led into sin by an evil mentor. Soon, the sin took over and Dorian surpassed his mentor in wickedness. Central to the story was a supernatural element concerning a portrait of the Dorian, which bore the consequences of his sin. Every time Dorian indulged in depravity, the picture would age, become diseased, and show rot and corruption. Dorian, however, remained youthful and handsome as he continued to "get away with" his depredations. Dorian had to hide the portrait in the attic as it got uglier by the minute. But, he couldn't resist going up into the the attic to see the latest disgusting metamorphosis of the painting. He had become the painting's SLAVE. The painting and Dorian were enemies, but they were the same person. Eventually, they were both destroyed.

The first time I read Today's Passage, I was already an avid student of History. I recognized Jesus's words about "A Kingdom Divided" as having been quoted by Abraham Lincoln in the famous speech, "A House Divided" which had been delivered June 16, 1858. Lincoln had just accepted the nomination as US Senator. Lincoln quoted Jesus to show that the nation could not survive as "Half Slave and Half Free". People in the 19th Century would have gotten the reference, as Bible Literacy was very high in our Nation at that time. There were very few homes that did NOT have a Bible. My generation had many other forms of distracting entertainment: Television, Record Players, Radio, Bookmobiles, Movies, and abundant toys gave us lots of things to do instead of reading the Bible. That's why I grew up thinking that it was Lincoln who had come up with that terrific metaphor.

Lincoln was talking about slavery when he gave his "House Divided" Speech. Jesus was also speaking of slavery, but of a spiritual kind. Sinners think that they are free to do what they want, and are not enslaved to "rules, regulations, and religion". They assume that their immediate needs are more important than the rights of others, and don't care whom they hurt.

But like the Picture of Dorian Grey, sin always has consequences. They can be hidden for a short time, but, eventually the "parasite" will destroy the "host".

When Jesus cast out demons, He did it by the Power of the Holy Spirit. The religious leaders who criticized Jesus said that He was doing this by the power of beelzebub, which was one of the names of the devil. This was not only an evil thing to say, it was also illogical. How would anyone be able to use satan to cast out satan?

What was even worse was that the religious leaders were slandering the Holy Spirit Himself. Jesus tells them that doing THAT is "The Unpardonable Sin".

Some scholars will debate for hours what "The Unpardonable Sin" really is. No debate is necessary. Jesus tells us straight out what it is.

There is also controversy about Jesus's response to his concerned family members. Was Jesus rejecting His family?

At this point in Jesus's Ministry, his family were skeptical about His Mission. We know from Scripture that His Mother knew what was going on, but other members of the family were yet to become Believers. They may have thought that Jesus had gone "round the bend", and were perhaps trying to rescue Him. Jesus's mild rebuke tells us that, even though we love our family, following Jesus is more important.

Scripture shows us that family members eventually did become believers, and ended up writing a couple of Books in the New Testament. That can give us hope that, eventually, our "difficult" family members will also become Believers.

Come and Pray For Your Prayers For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Amen, left that other site

And we see a lot of this today:

** In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house. ***

The strong man is under attack! Boy Scouts disbanding. “Toxic Masculinity” slurs. Men wanting to be women. Etc.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Psalm 52

To the leader. A Maskil of David, when Doeg the Edomite came to Saul and said to him, ‘David has come to the house of Ahimelech.’

1 Why do you boast, O mighty one,
of mischief done against the godly?*
All day long 2you are plotting destruction.
Your tongue is like a sharp razor,
you worker of treachery.
3 You love evil more than good,
and lying more than speaking the truth.
Selah
4 You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.

5 But God will break you down for ever;
he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living.
Selah
6 The righteous will see, and fear,
and will laugh at the evildoer,* saying,
7 ‘See the one who would not take
refuge in God,
but trusted in abundant riches,
and sought refuge in wealth!’*

8 But I am like a green olive tree
in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
for ever and ever.
9 I will thank you for ever,
because of what you have done.
In the presence of the faithful
I will proclaim* your name, for it is good.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Scribe Stood to Tempt Jesus"
James Tissot

_

the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.

And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.

And the scribes which came down from
Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?

And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.

And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.

And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?

And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
