The Church of England convened a synod this past week, a gathering of bishops, clergy and laypeople for the purpose of reviewing and possibly changing church doctrine.
The result of this particular gathering was that the national assembly voted, after two days of debate, to let Anglican priests bless same-sex weddings and civil partnerships. The blessings will come despite the fact gay and lesbian weddings will still be prohibited in the church.
Intended as a compromise measure after five years of discussions on the church’s position on human sexuality, the result is confusing to many. The ban on same-sex weddings is because the church believes it is sinful behavior, yet the church will now bless those same “sinful” partnerships?

[[Intended as a compromise measure]]
Can you imagine what woudl have happened if Jesus had compromised with Satan when tempted in the wilderness?
there’s nothing to discuss.
follow Christ’s teachings or don’t.
I guess they beat the Bee to this one...
May as well just formally do so. They did it a long time ago anyway.
“When the power of the holy people is finally broken”
It makes sense. There hasn’t been any Christianity in the Church of England since before the Reformation. They used the name of Jesus to support their claims of divine right of rulers which has left the world with people like King Charles and Prince Harry. They burned witches and tried for heresy anyone who had differing political opinions, which differed from the monarchs and the bishops. Church of England has always been a political construct, much like the Catholic church since the days of Rome, just with different corrupt leaders.
I think they’re just Christian in name only at this point. They might as well make it official.
They can bless all thy want. It wont be blessed by God. As much as I detest the Catholic Church, more and more are doing the same. I prefer not to go to any church.
They abandoned Christianity when they allowed a King to declare himself the head of the Church of England.
That’s the sort of crazy decision that results in a schism.
Yup
Amen
They're late to the party. Most churches in America have already done so.
Turning churches into drag shows and grooming clubs for children and virtue-signaling parents won't work for long. Once the LGBTQ community has won, they will want to return to their murky basement hideouts. There's more fun and excitement when your sex life is dangerous...even if you just have to pretend.
One of the people at the top must have said,
“Look, our numbers are crashing and continue to decline as we increasingly push the pagan agenda. How do we increase our membership numbers? I have a great idea. Phase out the Chrstianity part of Anglicanism and bring in full blown Neo-paganism. It’ll be a hit with the Millenials and some of the Gen-Zers!”
What will the Episcopalians in the US do when all of the clergy and lay persons, who oppose the direction the church is going, are booted from the churches in the UK?
there are non denominational Bible reading churches
I thought this was the Bee.
