78 percent of the Republic of Ireland’s population (right now) are Catholic, and 82 percent identify as Christian; 10 percent are “no religion” and the remaining eight percent would be other religions. It’s the Catholic-identifying politicians and clergy doing this for the most part.

I thought the protestant was the larger religion, and is why Ireland fought amongst each other, because the protestants were in control. I guess that was only in Northern Ireland?
