Quite a few years ago, I had to go to Khartoum, and made it out of Khartoum to Port Sudan. Neither are places you want to go but only go if your have to go. That was before South Sudan’s independence and conditions in both countries have not improved or have become worse. The infant mortality rates are among the highest or highest in the world as are the rates of maternal mortality.
The largest contributing factor to both those statistics are nutrition and lack of health care, but child marriage is also a major factor.
Both the majority Muslims in Sudan and the majority Christians in South Sudan are in a dire situation.
And something rarely reported was wide spread rape of men during that civil war...some were POWs or just innocent civilians who were in towns they raided.
