If you're a Humphrey Bogart fan, you might recognize what I typed as a quote from one of his movies.
"That’s what he said alright. He said that."
Hint: Humphrey didn't say it himself.

Never cared much for old Humphrey.
Never saw Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, or any of his movies that I can recall..........

Favorites: #3, a powerful work by the Russian Bronnikov. He was known for the harmony and purity of colors.
# 13 by von Gebbardt, the very talented and prolific German artist well known for his portraits and historical themes.
#20 and #41 by Tissot.
#20 and #32 stone carvings.

Not understanding what von Gebbardt’s massive column is meant to support—but I like his vision of Lazarus redeeming his time.

Looks like the fence is anchored to the column which also supports the structure of the building. His other works are worthy of exploration, solid artist.

“He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, THEY WILL NOT BE CONVINCED EVEN IF SOMEONE RISES FROM THE DEAD.’ ” A bit of foreshadowing, there ... and something that rings true to this very day.
Regarding the artists, I see two interpretations of the rich man:
1) That he's simply enormously wealthy, and not paying attention to the world.
2) That he's a glutton and a drunkard and actively spurning Lazarus.
At Mass, we pray:I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers [and sisters], that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do ...
Some of the artists depict the rich man's sins as what he has done, others depict them as what he has failed to do.

Thanks, Leon.
Tissot possessed an eagle-eye for all details, it seems.

Thank you, InkStone. Today’s page is full of great paintings. You are right, Dore’ at #2 is stunning and deserves 1st place among favorites.

I've been meaning to ask you, & this series reminded me...
even though the artists have an excuse to include dogs in this story,
why do so many artists draw dogs (often in the foreground) in other stories? It happens so often.
Is it their sponsors pets? or is it one of those unspoken challenges that magically appear - spanning continents and centuries: "My dog-artistry is better than yours."
Just curious.
