Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 26

Jesus Arrested

47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.

50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”[d]

Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”

55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,

Blessed and Glorious Is Your Most Holy and Wonderful Name!

We Come Into Your Presence With Singing

and Into Your Courts With Praise.

For Your Alone Are Worthy,

You Alone Are LORD,

You Alone Are the True God of Abraham!

How We Want To Love You and Serve You with Our Whole Heart,

Our Whole Soul,

Our Whole Mind,

And Our Whole Strength!

Let Your Holy Word Be Written Deep Upon Our Hearts,

Bound upon Our Right Hands,

And as a Frontlet Between Our Eyes!

Let Your Promises in Your Word never Depart from Us,

Oh Father, for even when we murmur and are unfaithful,

YOU ARE FOREVER FAITHFUL.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

A pivotal scene in the movie The Godfather II" takes place at a New Year's Eve party in Cuba. Michael, the new boss of the family, has discovered that his older brother Fredo has betrayed him. This means that Fredo has to die. Michael goes up to Fredo at the party, says, "You Broke My Heart," and spontaneously kisses him. This is the event that tells Fredo that his days are numbered, as it is the "Kiss of Death". Sure enough, later in the movie, Fredo goes fishing, and his little boat explodes.

Judas's "signal" that he had worked out with the arresting mob was so heartbreaking because it wasn't even spontaneous. It was traditional and appropriate to greet a beloved teacher with a kiss. Even to this day, men in the Middle East greet each other this way, and there are many examples in the Old Testament, especially in Genesis. If Jesus had not been Omniscient, it would have seemed like an ordinary greeting, rather than "The Kiss of Death".

Judas's words also provide a clue as to what was going on in his mind. He called Jesus "Rabbi" which means "Teacher". It is a very honorable title, but certainly not the same as "LORD".

To this day, there are people who say that Jesus was a "Wonderful Teacher", a Prophet, an "Ascended Master", or a "Profound Spiritual Leader", like Buddha or Confucius. But, unlike Buddha or Confucius, Jesus made claims that, if they were NOT true, negated any any greatness that has been attributed to him. He said He was the Son of God. He said that He and The Father were ONE. If those things were not true then He would have been a Liar or a Lunatic, and we KNOW that's not the case. If Judas had believed that Jesus was only a "Teacher", then he was disappointed in Him. Whether Judas believed in any more than the "Teacher" title, becomes irrelevant when Judas realizes that he has betrayed an innocent man. That is enough for him to try and return the money, and slink off to kill himself.

Now here's a riddle. Do you think that if Judas had REALLY Repented, and recognized Who Jesus REALLY was (is!), that he would have been forgiven? If, instead of going to the hanging tree, he had gone to the cross? Some people think so. Others say that Judas was too far gone, that the Scriptures say that "Satan entered him". Feel free to share your insights about this. It's a question that has bothered believers for centuries. Why would Judas DO such a thing.

My personal take on this is that Judas was convinced that Jesus was just a "Teacher", even after three years of Miracles, Teaching, and Close Contact with Him. His guilt (to him anyway) was that he had betrayed an innocent man, and for that guilt, he went to the WRONG TREE.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 54

To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David, when the Ziphites went and told Saul, ‘David is in hiding among us.’

1 Save me, O God, by your name,
and vindicate me by your might.
2 Hear my prayer, O God;
give ear to the words of my mouth.

3 For the insolent have risen against me,
the ruthless seek my life;
they do not set God before them.
Selah

4 But surely, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of* my life.
5 He will repay my enemies for their evil.
In your faithfulness, put an end to them.

6 With a freewill-offering I will sacrifice to you;
I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me from every trouble,
and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.

[Judas] went to the WRONG TREE.

Good insight.

Why Judas is interesting is that evil is complicated. If you picture a straight line, it can only be straight in one way. A crooked line? Infinite ways to be crooked.

Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Agreeing with you about Judas. Don’t know this, but I wonder if Judas was so hard hearted and all the time he was with Jesus he never heard the message, his heart and ears and eyes were closed so it never occurred to him he could go to the cross to repent and be forgiven.

Happy Sunday to All!

That's an interesting way of looking at it, and is very similar to the first line in the book "Anna Karenina":

"Happy Families are all alike. Each unhappy family is unhappy in its own special way."

That is certainly one way of looking at it. Hard-Heartedness was, in fact, what got Pharaoh into so much trouble, even though he grew up with Moses.

I never thought about ‘the wrong tree”. Judas hung from his own tree and left the curse upon himself. Jesus was yet to hang on the cross, the tree, and only Christ can redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.’ ONLY the CROSS, the SACRIFICE, the EXCHANGE, the ACCEPTANCE, the RESURRECTION. Judas did not wait upon the LORD. Thank you for this post, thank you for the prayer and worship. Joining all together.

I am glad that my musings about the “Wrong Tree” caused some thoughtful discussion here! Praise the Lord for His Eternal, Unchanging, but ever-revealing Word.
