JACKSON HEIGHTS — Police are investigating an incident at St. Joan of Arc Church in Jackson Heights, where a Nativity scene was disturbed, and a statue was damaged.
Msgr William Hoppe, pastor of St. Joan of Arc, said that around 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, the church noticed that three statues were moved from the Nativity scene in the Blessed Mother Shrine Garden outside the church.
The statues of Mary, Joseph, and Jesus were each placed separately in front of different doors on the steps at the entrance of the church.
Also, near the Nativity scene, which included several animals and statues, they discovered a severely-damaged statue of one of the Three Kings and that Christmas lights were ripped off in another area of the garden.
Since the yard is locked, it is believed that whoever is responsible may have hopped the fence to enter the private property.

When will people learn that you should never mess around with the BVM?
Either a Satanist or an angry Tran, who blames Christianity for all their ills. Never their own fault.
Jackson Heights has a large and very active LBQWERTY community. I would not be surprised if some of that community were behind this.
It may not be comparable, but I watched a family of grandparents and children enter the churchyard and a nativity scene at a local Methodist church. The kids climbed all over the live-size animals and sat on them while the grandparents stood by laughing and taking pictures like it was an attraction at Disneyland.
At the end of the communion service at my church when everyone was leaving, one of the preteens in the congregation sat herself down in the minister’s chair at the front of the sanctuary and proceeded to scarf up the remaining communion bread and grape juice, gathering it up and calmly stuffing it in her mouth. Her father was nearby and did nothing.
Some people seem to have no concept any longer of what is appropriate or any desire to correct their children’s behavior. Anything goes.
