Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 25

The Parable of the Bags of Gold

14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.

19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’

21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’

23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Abba Father,

How Awesome You Are!

You Alone Are LORD,

You Alone Are The Most High!

You Alone Are The One True God Of Abraham,

You Are The King of Kings,

LORD of Lords,

and Rock of All Ages,

Our Creator,

You Are Before All Things,

And In You All Things Hold Together.

Your Loving Kindness Is from Everlasting To Everlasting.

Even When We Are Unfaithful,

You Are Always Faithful.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Psalm 8

To the leader: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants
you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals* that you care for them?

5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God,*
and crowned them with glory and honour.
6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under their feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord, our Sovereign,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

In the music world, a lot of people cross each other's paths. Then we all like to tell stories about our experiences. Here a a couple of "hearsay" stories about Talented People.

1. The Big Gig:Larry was a talented Bass Player. After paying their dues by playing high school dances and dive bars in Queens, NY, Larry's band got the Big Gig. They were to open for the first appearance of a British Band that was coming to America in the wake of the Beatles, who had just been to New York. There were rumors that this band was even grittier and more revolutionary than the Beatles were. It was scary, but the Band took the gig. It was very exciting, but after the gig, Larry decided it was time to get a "Real Job", and, after a few more years of bar gigs, left the music world behind. Years later, in his senior years he thought back about the band, which broke up right after he quit. The Headlining Band from that Big Gig was still making records and was world famous, still, after a half century. It was the Rolling Stones.

2. The Disgruntled Organist: Larry's Band was the Headliner at a seedy night club in Manhattan. Somebody whom he had never heard of was going to open as a soloist on the beat-up Hammond B3 House Organ. As Larry was setting up his equipment, he wondered where the organist was, as it was getting closer and closer to opening time. Finally, at the last minute, an unhappy young man with frizzy hair came in. Larry greeted him, but he did not respond. He went over to the organ, and precisely at 9:00, launched into the most amazing music Larry had ever heard on the organ. Then, precisely at the end of his set, the young man with frizzy hair stood up, collected his pay, and left. Larry recognized him a few years later. It had been Billy Joel. It made Larry wonder. "What was Billy Joel doing playing in that two-bit nightclub?"

3. The Contract: The aforementioned artist had a disagreement with his record company. This was a common occurrence, and is chronicled in the book The Starmaking Machinery". Now, in the world of Live-Streaming, Indy Record Companies, and Podcasts, musicians can't imagine the absolute control a record company used to have over their artists. If an initial album didn't sell enough copies to pay back the company's investment, an artist could be barred from any further recording or concert appearance until either the sales added up or the contractual period had elapsed. According to my brother, who is a big fan, this is what happened to Billy Joel very early in his career. For four years he could not record or appear in concert, but he still had to make a living. And so he played in various dive bars, opened for inferior acts in night clubs, and just worked as a "General Business" musician. The song "Piano Man" reflects this experience, and one can hear his frustration in the lyrics. It must have been during this time that Larry ran into him.

But Billy did not waste these years. He kept writing songs, and honed his talent. When the contractual period ran out, Billy changed record companies and immediately released FOUR albums full of amazing music. They all became best sellers and are now considered "Classic Vinyl". When my brother told me this story, I remembered Larry, and realized that it all made sense. He wasn't making up the story about his encounter. It was REAL.

Larry, the Stones, and Billy all had been given Talent. All of them had to study and work hard to make that Talent work. Sometimes they hid it, and buried it, and sometimes, burial was forced upon them.

In this Parable, the Talent was a weight of money, over 75 pounds of it! Even one talent would have been enough to invest in something. And so, the servant with only one talent was lazy and unproductive. Then, when the Master asked him to give an account, the Lazy Servant BLAMED the Master for being a "Hard Man" and "Reaping what he didn't sow". What an insult!

That's like blaming God for our troubles instead of eagerly serving Him and seeing the increase in our lives.

I used to hate the song "Piano Man" because it seemed that Billy was complaining about having a regular Saturday Night Gig at a Piano Bar where the customers all knew and loved him. What's wrong with that? But now, after my brother told me the story, I completely understand!

Hoarding is not the way to deal with Faith. God has given each of us a measure of it, and it's our job to make it grow.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"The Parable of the Talents"
Rembrandt van Rijn

Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
