Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 21
Jesus Curses a Fig Tree
18 Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. 19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.
20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.
21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
How Wonderful, How Majestic,
How Excellent is Your Most Holy Name!
Our Hearts overflow with Praise and Wonder at Your Glory.
You Alone Are Worthy of Our Love and Adoration,
You Alone Are Worthy Of Worship,
For You Alone Are The Omnipotent,
Eternal and Omniscient,
Everlasting and Almighty God!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

The following is an embellishment of a Family Story Mom told many years ago:
Billy was in despair over what to get his mother for Christmas. His two sisters were adept at Arts & Crafts, and could turn a Kleenex box into a Jewelry Case with some macaroni and gold paint, but Billy wasn't gifted in that way. Every dime Billy made as a newsboy went right back into the family, so he didn't have any money to buy anything. And Christmas was a week away.
On Christmas morning, Mama opened the girls' presents first. One was a perfect little Jewelry Box that was just the right size for Mama's engagement ring. Mama didn't have the heart to tell her daughter that the ring was, at this very moment, in a Pawn Shop waiting to be redeemed. Then she opened Billy's gift.
It was a painted clay pot with a live plant in it, of tall, elegant, succulent foliage. Mama looked at it, not knowing what it was. Billy explained.
"It's a rare tropical plant called "Tuberous Begonius". Take good care of it, because it will make beautiful flowers."
Well, that was just amazing! Where on earth could Billy have obtained such a precious gift? How could it have survived, in the Winter, in Boston, where the coal could run out any minute and the water in your pipes could freeze? This was a treasure indeed.
Mama took good care of the "Tuberous Begonius". She gave it lots of sunlight, watered it faithfully, and did everything she could to keep it warm. She eventually got her ring out of hock, and was able to pass it down to her granddaughter (Me!). The "Tuberous Begonius" foliage became thick and luxurious, but, for some strange reason, it never bloomed. One afternoon, Mama was dusting, and inadvertently knocked the "Tuberous Begonius" off the windowsill. The pot shattered on the floor and there was dirt everywhere. The disaster answered the question as to why the plant had never blossomed. It wasn't a "Tuberous Begonius" at all. It was an "Allium Cepa", also known as a Common ONION.
The Story of Jesus cursing the Fig Tree is one that has puzzled readers for centuries. Because the Fig Tree is generally thought of as a Symbol for Israel, the story has been misinterpreted to justify antisemitism. While that is just wrong, it can be seen as a Prophecy of the Destruction of the Temple that would be occurring in 70AD, just 40 years in the future. It also could mean that the Sacrificial System would "wither away" overnight without the Temple and Jerusalem. Jesus could also have been saying that He was the Messiah, and there would not be another One. Thus, the tree would never bear fruit again.
But why did Jesus expect figs, when it wasn't the "Season for Figs?" you may ask. This needs a little explanation of the Fig Tree itself. As the "Season for Figs" approaches, a kind of "Pre-Fig" fruit appears along with the leaves. These little buds ripen into the figs that come later. They are edible, but not like the yummy ripe figs. Even though it was Pre-Season, those little buds should have been abundant. But this particular fig tree had nothing but leaves. It wasn't a "Tuberous Begonius", but merely an "Allium Cepa" in a fancy clay pot.
Many religious systems fall into that category. Lots of beautiful foliage, but no fruit. And remember what Jesus said:
"By their FRUITS you shall know them."
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Psalm 17
A Prayer of David.
1 Hear a just cause, O Lord; attend to my cry;
give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit.
2 From you let my vindication come;
let your eyes see the right.
3 If you try my heart, if you visit me by night,
if you test me, you will find no wickedness in me;
my mouth does not transgress.
4 As for what others do, by the word of your lips
I have avoided the ways of the violent.
5 My steps have held fast to your paths;
my feet have not slipped.
6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God;
incline your ear to me, hear my words.
7 Wondrously show your steadfast love,
O saviour of those who seek refuge
from their adversaries at your right hand.
8 Guard me as the apple of the eye;
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
9 from the wicked who despoil me,
my deadly enemies who surround me.
10 They close their hearts to pity;
with their mouths they speak arrogantly.
11 They track me down;* now they surround me;
they set their eyes to cast me to the ground.
12 They are like a lion eager to tear,
like a young lion lurking in ambush.
13 Rise up, O Lord, confront them, overthrow them!
By your sword deliver my life from the wicked,
14 from mortals—by your hand, O Lord—
from mortals whose portion in life is in this world.
May their bellies be filled with what you have stored up for them;
may their children have more than enough;
may they leave something over to their little ones.
15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness;
when I awake I shall be satisfied, beholding your likeness.
