Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 20
The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
20 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius[a] for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
3 “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ 5 So they went.
“He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’
7 “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.
“He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
8 “When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’
9 “The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12 ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’
13 “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’
16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty and Everlasting Father,
How Glorious and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
Almighty and Eternal,
Glorious and Transcendent,
Rock of Ages,
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

They need to form a union. The simple answer is, don’t work for the guy again.

Today would have been my Mom's 96th Birthday. I used to tease her that she shared a birthday with Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Richard, and Josef Stalin. Turns out I was right about Keith and Joe, but the dates for Ludwig and Jimi are unsubstantiated. Mom didn't mind being in the same boat as Ludwig, Jimi, and Keith, but she hated having the same birthday as Stalin. Even though he had been a recent ally in WW2, he was an evil, terrible man, and communism was horrible too. I grew up doing "Duck and Cover" in Kindergarten and the fear of nuclear war left a permanent scar on my psyche.
I knew in my heart that communism was wrong. Stalin was still alive when I was born, and had just obtained the secret of the H-Bomb. My own Dad had been a Navy Veteran of WW2 and Korea, and had served in China during a US Navy Secret Mission to defeat Mao Tse Dong. (It's not a secret now, as it is listed on the mission list of his ship on the US Navy Website.) I didn't understand the political theory behind communism, only that they claimed that everybody was equal and made the same salary no matter how much work they did...or something like that. That was counter-intuitive to my overachieving, ambitious little mind, and my sense of justice was offended.
Imagine my horror when this Gospel Portion was read reverently from the pulpit! Was Jesus a COMMUNIST???? YIKES!
"OK", I thought. "I'll wait for the sermon. That will straighten this out." But the sermon was some happy-talk about something unrelated to the Gospel Reading, and I was still puzzled. After the Service I asked Mom if Jesus was a Communist.
"Absolutely NOT!" she replied. "Communists KILL Christians."
I then asked her the meaning of the Parable.
"Why, Jesus is telling us not to be busy bodies or jealous of other people's salaries. In fact, we shouldn't even ASK other people how much money they make."
Well, that was OK, I guess. At least Jesus wasn't a Communist!
Many years later, the parable showed up again in my reading. This time, it made sense immediately. Jesus wasn't talking about communism, money, or work, or even fairness. He was talking about His Gift of Salvation. No matter at what stage of one's life a person comes to Faith, the Salvation is the Same Gift. The preceding parables of the Lost Sheep, the Treasure in the Field, and the Pearl of Great Value all indicate that this is another "Kingdom Parable".
Liberation Theologians who try to use this Parable to justify communism are barking up the wrong grapevine.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 28
Of David.
1 To you, O Lord, I call;
my rock, do not refuse to hear me,
for if you are silent to me,
I shall be like those who go down to the Pit.
2 Hear the voice of my supplication,
as I cry to you for help,
as I lift up my hands
towards your most holy sanctuary.*
3 Do not drag me away with the wicked,
with those who are workers of evil,
who speak peace with their neighbours,
while mischief is in their hearts.
4 Repay them according to their work,
and according to the evil of their deeds;
repay them according to the work of their hands;
render them their due reward.
5 Because they do not regard the works of the Lord,
or the work of his hands,
he will break them down and build them up no more.
6 Blessed be the Lord,
for he has heard the sound of my pleadings.
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts;
so I am helped, and my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.
8 The Lord is the strength of his people;
he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
9 O save your people, and bless your heritage;
be their shepherd, and carry them for ever.

To: Hebrews 11:6
There were quite a few pictures of Dogs vs Grapes, as grapes are hazardous to our canine friends. Even one grape or raisin can make a dog very ill...something to remember during the Holidays.
This puts a new spin on the Aesop Fable of the Fox and the Grapes. If the fox had been able to reach the grapes and pigged out on them, he could have died from poisoning.
His inability to reach the grapes may have saved his life.

I see another point in the parable. We will be rewarded by how faithful we are to task given us—small or great. A homemaker faithfully raising her kids in the Lord will get as great a reward as Billy Graham, say.
Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.

Excellent.
We are called to be faithful to the job the Lord has assigned to us.
Many people these days forget, or never knew, the old adage of “The hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world.”
