Good Morning, Dan. :-)
Enjoyed your word-picture of you holding the stroller and your little brother's hand. I know the incident was fraught, but the picture is charming.
Thanks for that compliment.
Every word was true. :-)
Good Morning Dan, and happy weekend to all.
Many symbols herein: clubs, leaves (palms?) pen / scroll, spear and tools. Could someone explain these (etabeta =:^)
#5 (sculptor unknown- anyone know?)
#17 & #25 stunning Rubens
Thank You Dan =:^)
When depicting the apostles, a convention developed to include the means by which they were martyred. Today we see a lance, a saw and an axe. Don’t know about other symbols.
Rubens, Van Dyck, Tissot again...
I very much like the portrait of St. Jude at #2.
Having been in St. Matthias Church in Trier, I like the effigy of the Saint who is buried here. His face reminds me of sculptures of Jesus of that period.
A beautiful statue by the Italian 17th c. sculptor Lorenzo Ottoni in St. John the Evangelist Basilica in Rome, #5.
Thanks for having found so many stained glass windows!
I went a-searching for them. I am Sherlock de Fenster.
Yes, all attributes of their martyrdom. The palm represents the victory of martyrs, the victory of the spirit over the flesh.
That is wonderful.
But why the palm? Is there a connection to Jesus' triumphal entry on Palm Sunday?
In pre-Christian times the palm was regarded as a symbol of victory. As this article explains, the early Christians saw death as victory.

Thanks, Alba, for that very relevant article.
Thank you for explaining the symbols Dan.
etabeta, thanks for the article on the palm, as a symbol; much good information there!
Also, I appreciate you telling us that the sculpture #5 (’St. John the Evangelist’) was done by Lorenzo Ottoni.
You are very welcome, InkStone!
Thank you...I was also wondering about the lance, saw and ax.
One benefit of visiting the gallery so late in the day is to glean FReeper knowledge.
On prior days you may have noticed other tokens: crosses, a knife for flaying, etc.
Sometimes we do not consider the depth and distance of
Take up your cross and follow Me
