Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 18
Dealing With Sin in the Church
15 “If your brother or sister[b] sins,[c] go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’[d] 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be[e] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[f] loosed in heaven.
19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
You are Forever Holy and Righteous.
How Excellent is Your Name!
It is You Who Stretched out the Heavens,
And it is You Who laid the Foundations of the Earth.
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,
and You Alone Are The One True God.
Ancient of Days,
Rock of Ages,
Eternal, and Almighty,
We Can Do Nothing But Fall On Our Faces Before You
In Endless Worship and Thanksgiving!
We Thank You For Your Mighty,
Exquisite,
Holy, and Immutable Word!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

A brother in Christ offended me deeply. It was during the 2015 Presidential Primary Season, so that kind of thing happened with a lot of people. Nevertheless, he did not ask for forgiveness, but just assumed it, by calling the next day and acting as though nothing had happened. I told him that he had offended me, and that I forgave him, but felt that our friendship had been altered by the experience and wasn't the same as before. (I was being truthful about that. I was doing all the forgiving without any repentance on his part.) Well, this caused him to fly into a rage and started questioning my relationship with God. That was beyond the pale, and, in my pride, I blocked him on all my phones and computers. he still has access to me on FR, but he doesn't post anymore, probably because he has offended a lot of other people.
I bear some of the responsibility for this rift, because I skipped the steps that Jesus outlines here. The first "non-repentance" should have been followed up with a conversation with a trusted brother known to both of us, and, if that didn't work, a "committee" of fellow believers should have been enlisted to arbitrate. But I just skipped that and went to STEP FOUR. I BANNED him. Because of that, my own conscience has not been cleared of the incident. Of course, the fact that we lived 1700 miles away from each other, and didn't attend the same church was a contributing factor. And yet, I feel that there is unfinished business.
Political events since the incident have proven me right, but being "Right" is not always the Victory in an argument. Whatever has happened to this person in the last 7 years, I forgive him. If he's reading this (which I doubt), drop me a line on FR. You have been unblocked.
Jesus knew this kind of thing would arise within the Body of Believers. That is why He gave us this "Four-Step-Program" for forgiveness. Secular programs, that deal with addictions and other offenses, incorporate these four steps into their own list. Sometimes the whole family or community gets involved, and it's called an "Intervention". Unfortunately, many of our institutions (including church!) are structured in such a way that staging an "Intervention" ends up looking like a conspiracy or a rebellion. And so, most of us, when offended, just walk away, block phone calls and email that could lead to reconciliation, ban the offender from our Social Media page, and try to forget about it. It takes courage to confront an offender, and I am NOT good at it.
It's so much easier to go right to STEP FOUR. Step Four is when, all else has failed, and you treat the offender as if he were an unbeliever or a Tax Collector. In 1st Century Jewish Society, that meant blocking and banning.
But Wait! Jesus ATE with Unbelievers and Tax Collectors. That doesn't look like "Blocking and Banning" to me.
The big difference is that the Unbelievers and Tax Collectors with whom Jesus dined repented.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

Psalm 3
A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom.
1 O Lord, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
2 many are saying to me,
‘There is no help for you* in God.’
Selah
3 But you, O Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
4 I cry aloud to the Lord,
and he answers me from his holy hill.
Selah
5 I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, for the Lord sustains me.
6 I am not afraid of tens of thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.
7 Rise up, O Lord!
Deliver me, O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked.
8 Deliverance belongs to the Lord;
may your blessing be on your people!
Selah
