[Catholic] Priest Slams Indonesia Ban on Sex Outside Marriage

Father Otto Gusti Madung calls the move 'a setback to protecting the liberal rights of citizens'

An Indonesian Catholic priest has joined human rights activists in criticizing a new criminal code approved by Indonesia’s parliament that outlaws sex outside of marriage with a punishment of up to one year in jail.

Indonesia's criminal code, which stretches back to the Dutch colonial era, has been debated for decades and its lawmakers finally approved sweeping changes, to it on Dec. 6, despite widespread opposition from civil society.

Divine Word Father Otto Gusti Madung, a lecturer at the Institute of Philosophy and Creative Technology in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara province, called the parliament’s decision “a setback to protecting the liberal rights of citizens which includes the guarantee of human dignity.”

He said the move was part of an effort to incorporate religious morality into the law.

The priest who teaches philosophy and human rights said it is a moral imperative that sex between two individuals may only be carried out after marriage according to the religion they follow.

However, sex outside of marriage is also a private moral issue that can be resolved by religions or individual personal moral considerations in the case of non-religious people and hence should not be regulated by civil laws, he added.

"When this religious morality is adopted into criminal affairs, the state is actually making religious morality a state issue," Father Madung told UCA News.

Sorry, Parliment, but that is a laughably unenforceable law.
What are you going to do? Have Sex Police?

A neighbor hears ‘suspicious noises’ from next door;
lots of bed springs and some kind of rhythmic moaning.
The S.P. are going to use a battering ram (how Freudian!)
to break the door down, so Cops can burst into the bedroom, flip the lights on and ‘confront’ the participants with megaphones and guns drawn. Does that nosy neighbor get a reward for narc-ing on their former friends?

Indonesian priest sparks same-sex marriage storm: Divine Word priest claims it is only a matter of time before the Catholic Church has to accept gay unions

An Indonesian priest has sparked controversy by claiming the Catholic Church will probably accept same-sex marriages.

Divine Word Father Otto Gusti Madung’s comments were made last month during a talk with members of a group called Journalists Union for Diversity, which posted them on Facebook on May 23.

“In my opinion, it is possible that same-sex marriage will be recognized in the Catholic Church,” said the priest, who teaches philosophy and human rights at the Ledalero Catholic School of Philosophy in Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara province.

The campus is known for its inclusiveness and for often inviting LGBT people to participate in events it hosts.

Father Madung said that religion and spirituality only have the legitimacy to exist if they side with marginalized people such as LGBT people and try to reduce suffering in the world.

The priest’s remarks have drawn criticism from Catholics who accused him of being a liberal who could cause serious damage to the Church. . .

The guy is a freak and probably hired as a teacher by the freaks in Rome. FYI. No person is smart enough to rewrite the Ten Commandments.

In the US it could mean that rather than :

fornication being celebrated it can be condemned as not only immoral but illegal.

and rewarding fornication by making it economically advantageous (welfare-wise) to have children out of "wed lock" (without the lock), and marriage being a negative economic choice via policies that penalize it, this can be turned around.

rampant (at least 25% of women in colleges alone) and costly (to you as a tax payer) STD's, this can be labelled as due to a criminal recklessness.

homosexual fornication, which is responsible for at least 80% of new HIV cases among young and middle age, sodomy can be labelled as criminal behavior.

being "Woke," it can be part of "awake to righteousness"

That is just part of it. And which laws are MAGA:

Massachusetts Historical excerpts

MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL LAWS, CP. 272;

Section 36: Blasphemy

Whoever wilfully blasphemes the holy name of God by denying, cursing or contumeliously [without respect; in a disdainful manner] reproaching God, His creation, government or final judging of the world, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching Jesus Christ or the Holy Ghost, or by cursing or contumeliously reproaching or exposing to contempt and ridicule, the holy word of God contained in the holy scriptures shall be punished by imprisonment in jail for not more than one year or by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars, and may also be bound to good behavior.

Section 38: Disturbance of assembly for worship

Adhering to traditional sexual moral strictures does lead to a more stable society. However you can’t legislate morality and tolerate personal freedom. However if sexual perversion harms children, it is a crime that must be severely punished.

It would shut down the confessional resulting in no more Hail Mary’s and a lot of guilt donation. (Do they still have indulgences?)

Oh yes, among other unscriptural inventions. I have suspected that some think they obtain an indulgence for incessantly posting Cath. propaganda.

How can you know but say they do know, and the girls pregnant and the guy did not plan to marry her. Both go to jail for a year. She’s in jail for that year having a baby, now state paid? What happens to the baby in the last few months after the baby is born and she still has to serve time? Or does the state have the choice of forced abortion?

Meanwhile he’s in jail, one year. Ends up either having sex in prison which he didn’t behave this way before or he is raped. Makes a mess out of him either way.

Not going to get the goal they hope for.

This is Islamic law. And one doubts it will be widely enforced, since a small gift will encourage the cops to look the other way.

However it could stop sex tourism and the sexual exploitation of street kids.
