I’ve also read about the roots of Christianity and how it has been corrupted by those in power.

Agreed. I don't consider either Christian. You shouldn't let their behavior influence your eternity.

If you really believe that then you really need to study the history of the popery of the romans. While swaggerts debauchery is horrible he didn’t order the killing of hundreds of millions of Christians. He is not mentioned in Scripture as the false prophet or the whore of Rome, so while he is repulsive, he isn’t near as bad as the pontifex maximus and the horde that follows him.
