Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 6
Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Lord and Heavenly Father
You Are The Living God,
My Rock and My Redeemer!
My Deliverer!
You are The God of My Salvation,
My Refuge,
My Rescue,
My Strong Tower, My Fortress!
And You Promise Us You will Not Depart from Your People
You Alone Are The God Who Saves Us.
You Alone are the One True God Over All!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Psalm 54
To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David, when the Ziphites went and told Saul, ‘David is in hiding among us.’
1 Save me, O God, by your name,
and vindicate me by your might.
2 Hear my prayer, O God;
give ear to the words of my mouth.
3 For the insolent have risen against me,
the ruthless seek my life;
they do not set God before them.
Selah
4 But surely, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of* my life.
5 He will repay my enemies for their evil.
In your faithfulness, put an end to them.
6 With a freewill-offering I will sacrifice to you;
I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me from every trouble,
and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
I am spending another day on the 5th Petition, because it is such a complex issue. I am certain that I would not be presumptuous to say that EVERYBODY has been hurt by SOMEBODY at some time. In fact, if someone has never been hurt by ANYBODY, EVER, there is something wrong. Some people have been hurt so much that they can't find it in themselves to forgive. Most heroes and saints go through an incredible amount of testing and trial...it's what turns them into heroes and saints. It's not what happens to us that matters, but how we react to it.
Sometimes the person who has harmed us has "fallen off the planet", died, or keeps on doing the same thing over and over. Needless to say, there are people who go on their merry way never asking for forgiveness. How is it possible to forgive the person, when all we have left of him (or her) is the damage he has caused? And yet, we are enjoined to forgive others in order to be forgiven ourselves. Jesus gave this principle so much importance that He spoke of it at least three times (The Lord's Prayer in Matthew and Luke, and the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant). He also gave us an example of forgiving people, who are not asking for forgiveness, as He hung on the Cross dying. He said:
"Father Forgive Them, for They Know Not What They Do."
The Deacon Stephen said a similar thing when people were stoning him to death:
"Father, don't hold this against them"
There was a guy named Saul in the crowd, holding the coats of those throwing the stones. He was aiding and abetting the murder of an innocent man. (Much like modern thugs who video a murder and show it on FB). And yet, Stephen was asking God to forgive Saul. Perhaps it was this act of forgiveness that set in motion the events that turned Saul into Paul, the greatest missionary that ever lived.
Jesus and Stephen provided us with a way of forgiving when it is impossible in our own power to do so. Both of them RELEASED the perpetrators to The Father for Forgiveness. They were not excusing the sin, being haughty about being in the right, or even trying to make the perpetrators feel guilty.
In preparing for Today's Thread, I came across a very interesting Graphic from a Lutheran Slide Show Website. Here is what it said:
• Personal forgiveness is not:
1. Pretending that what was done is not wrong
2. Having to forget and be naive as to someone's future habits and actions.
3. A result of "getting even" through personal retribution.
4. Taking the moral high ground to appear better than the person wronged.
5. Having to maintain constant contact or communication with the person
Although the Graphic was opinion rather than Scripture, I thought it was helpful.
We have all been in a situation where we have had to forgive the unforgivable. Praise the Lord that Jesus showed us, by example, how it can be done. Nothing is Impossible with God.
