Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

O LORD Save Us!

You are Our Salvation,

You Are Our Defense

You Are our Refuge and our Strength.

Hear Us When we Call, oh LORD.

Save Us and Our Beloved from the Lion's Mouth.

You Alone are Mighty To Save,

and You Are The ONLY One!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 6

Prayer

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10  your kingdom come,
your will be done,
    on earth as it is in heaven.
11  Give us today our daily bread.
12  And forgive us our debts,
    as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13  And lead us not into temptation,[a]
    but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

I got to the Car Dealership first thing in the morning, as I wanted to be first in line for my Scheduled Maintenance. It was a huge dealership, and the lines for service filled up fast. A woman scooted into line right behind me, and scowled as if she were annoyed that she wasn't first. We both parked our cars in the bay and went into the waiting room.

"I wanted to get in first," she grumbled, "But I had to make my prayers."

"Make My Prayers"? I wondered. "I've never heard it described THAT way before." Although she wasn't wering a headscarf, a large pendant she wore indicated that she was probably a Muslim. Muslims pray five times a day, in very specific ways, at very specific times, with specific words and body motions. Because the Sunrise and the opening of the Car Dealership coincided that day, she ended up being second in line for service. She was NOT happy about it. I gently tried to say that prayer should be between her and God, not on someone else's schedule. She only got more annoyed with me, and then I was called to get my car. So I prayed for her that whole day, and still managed to make all my appointments.

Yesterday we spoke of the three religious activities explored in The Sermon on the Mount. The three, Giving, Praying, and Fasting, are common to nearly all of the World's Religions. The activities themselves are not the Path to Redemption, although they are edifying, uplifting, and redemptive in nature. All three activities are the natural outcome of Redemption, and the value of each activity is dependent upon the condition of the heart attitude of the person doing it.

Giving in order to receive accolades is worthless. So is praying ostentatiously, to receive public approval.

When Jesus taught this to His disciples, they were puzzled. Wasn't public prayer a show of piety?

It is at this point that Jesus teaches the disciples "HOW" to pray, not "WHAT" to pray. He doesn't instruct the disciples on body positions, times of day, prayer schedules, or any "accessories" to prayer. He doesn't even give specific words to say, as the Lord's Prayer is a little different when it is taught in thee Book of Luke. What is most likely is that Jesus was giving His followers a pattern of prayer, a template upon which we can communicate with Our Father our needs and desires.

The Lord's Prayer as recorded in Matthew, has seven "petitions" in it. In the next seven days, we will look at them one at a time, and, hopefully, the Lord will bring to mind more little stories that go with each petition.

Remember, this is not a "scholarly" exposition of the Lord's Prayer, but just a daily meditation based upon the words of Jesus in the Gospels.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 22

To the leader: according to The Deer of the Dawn. A Psalm of David.

1 My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from helping me, from the words of my groaning?
2 O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer;
and by night, but find no rest.

3 Yet you are holy,
enthroned on the praises of Israel.
4 In you our ancestors trusted;
they trusted, and you delivered them.
5 To you they cried, and were saved;
in you they trusted, and were not put to shame.

6 But I am a worm, and not human;
scorned by others, and despised by the people.
7 All who see me mock at me;
they make mouths at me, they shake their heads;
8 ‘Commit your cause to the Lord; let him deliver—
let him rescue the one in whom he delights!’

9 Yet it was you who took me from the womb;
you kept me safe on my mother’s breast.
10 On you I was cast from my birth,
and since my mother bore me you have been my God.
11 Do not be far from me,
for trouble is near
and there is no one to help.

12 Many bulls encircle me,
strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
13 they open wide their mouths at me,
like a ravening and roaring lion.

14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax;
it is melted within my breast;
15 my mouth* is dried up like a potsherd,
and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death.

16 For dogs are all around me;
a company of evildoers encircles me.
My hands and feet have shrivelled;*
17 I can count all my bones.
They stare and gloat over me;
18 they divide my clothes among themselves,
and for my clothing they cast lots.

19 But you, O Lord, do not be far away!
O my help, come quickly to my aid!
20 Deliver my soul from the sword,
my life* from the power of the dog!
21 Save me from the mouth of the lion!

From the horns of the wild oxen you have rescued* me.
22 I will tell of your name to my brothers and sisters;*
in the midst of the congregation I will praise you:
23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!
All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him;
stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For he did not despise or abhor
the affliction of the afflicted;
he did not hide his face from me,*
but heard when I* cried to him.

25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation;
my vows I will pay before those who fear him.
26 The poor* shall eat and be satisfied;
those who seek him shall praise the Lord.
May your hearts live for ever!

27 All the ends of the earth shall remember
and turn to the Lord;
and all the families of the nations
shall worship before him.*
28 For dominion belongs to the Lord,
and he rules over the nations.

29 To him,* indeed, shall all who sleep in* the earth bow down;
before him shall bow all who go down to the dust,
and I shall live for him.*
30 Posterity will serve him;
future generations will be told about the Lord,
31 and* proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn,
saying that he has done it.

I tested negative yesterday but still am very weak and congested.

I did walk three miles with Tippy this morning, and was rewarded with a beautiful Autumn scene at the pond with a family of swans foraging among the water lilies.

God is Good!
