Christ said that he would not leave us orphans, and that the gates of hell would not prevail against his Church. With this knowledge, we should not despair when we see Pope Francis participate in pagan ceremonies, or sell-out millions of Chinese Catholics, or even when he promotes heretics to the cardinalate. The Church Militant is not just made up of Francis and his like-minded prelates, it is also made up of the laity. Looking to the past gives us a reasonable hope that the Holy Spirit will raise up a lay son (or daughter) of the Church to fix this wicked problem. So, if Francis thinks that he can change the Faith… well… he's on the wrong side of history.

God’s Church is much bigger than the corrupt hierarchy. The Holy Spirit will not operate with homosexuals, pedophiles, and free masons.
However The Holy Spirit does operate where 2 or more Bible believing Christians come together…
Matthew 18:20 - For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Christians have plenty of other options than this commie pope.

Good article. But it is a sad situation when one must reference events that happened 600+ years ago when talking about removing a bad pope.
In 1970 Pope St. Paul VI wisely established that cardinals aged 80 and over cannot participate in the process of electing a new pope. It’s just a shame that no such age limit was established for the pope himself.
At 79, you’re the pope.
At 80, you’re the pope emeritus.

Can’t resist making up a rhyme.
It’s true slippery slope
when you find you have a Pope
who causes you to mope
at the end of your rope
But don’t give up hope
when he sounds like a dope
with an ill-timed trope
wash your fears out with soap.

Paul VI never did anything wise.
In 1970, most of the cardinals over 80 were against his radical reforms and VC II.

But that's where we are. Two-thirds of the cardinals voted for this guy. The whole Church stinks. I think it's at its lowest point since the counter-reformation.

The Great Western Schism made it explicit that cardinals do not have the authority to depose a sitting pope...Ironically, what was implicit from the schism is that lay powers have the de facto ability (if not the outright authority) to depose a sitting pope. Does the writer explain why Cardinals have no power to depose a Pope but lay persons somehow do?

Haven’t converted, but I’ve been attending United Methodist church for the past 4 years. Hoping that God won’t send me to hell.

I won’t argue against that. But term limits are, in general, a good thing. And even more so when the folks involved are otherwise appointed for life: popes, cardinals, and yes, federal judges.
Unlike with federal judges, popes of course cannot be impeached. I read somewhere that the only way to remove a senile or insane pope would be to gently kill him. That’s one heck of a bad situation, and it’s got to change.
I suppose that wasn’t such a problem 200 years ago. But with all the advances in modern medicine, it’s a problem now.

In the past we were ruled by monarchs, and so it made sense if the Popes got out of line, then the monarchs could be expected to nudge them back in the right direction.
Now that we live in the age of democracy, it might be that we need a mob of conservatives to descend upon the Vatican to nudge the Pope back in the right direction.

Counting on EU leaders to solve the problem seems to be a stretch.

It's like what happened in 2020.
The Democrats didn't win the election de jure, but they did win it de facto.

Maybe we can get some Spanish Catholics to sponsor a running of the bulls through the Vatican?

if Francis thinks that he can change the Faith… well… he's on the wrong side of history. To be more accurate, he's about 500 years too late, and the guy who did it back then actually went in the correct direction. What Francis is trying is more of an under-the-counter reformation, and those never end well, Deo Gratias.
