Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Matthew 4
Jesus Calls His First Disciples
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Heavenly Father,
My High Tower
My Stronghold and My Fortress,
I Run To You,
And I am Safe.
No One Can Hurt Me When I Am Surrounded By Your Protection.
You Rise Above The Fray,
A High Tower,
A Place of Refuge,
From which the enemy looks very small indeed.
You Alone are the One True God Over All!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Psalm 20
To the leader. A Psalm of David.
1 The Lord answer you in the day of trouble!
The name of the God of Jacob protect you!
2 May he send you help from the sanctuary,
and give you support from Zion.
3 May he remember all your offerings,
and regard with favour your burnt sacrifices.
Selah
4 May he grant you your heart’s desire,
and fulfil all your plans.
5 May we shout for joy over your victory,
and in the name of our God set up our banners.
May the Lord fulfil all your petitions.
6 Now I know that the Lord will help his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with mighty victories by his right hand.
7 Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses,
but our pride is in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They will collapse and fall,
but we shall rise and stand upright.
9 Give victory to the king, O Lord;
answer us when we call.*

I recently put my TV in the dumpster, and so I did not watch every minute of Queen Elizabeth's Funeral. I did, however, catch some moments of it on You Tube. One of the eulogies had a phrase that echoed today's Reading from Matthew. I have tried to find it again to share with you, but it seems to have vanished into cyberspace. I hope my recollection of it is accurate:
"When Jesus called His disciples, He didn't tell them HOW to follow, but WHO to follow."
The "how", I suppose, would come with discipleship, listening to His teaching, and just being in contact with Him.
Now, this is not the usual way of doing things. A life-changing decision should be approached with much thought, prayer, and research. You wouldn't but a house without finding out how much of a mortgage you can obtain, have the house inspected for hidden flaws, and make sure the systems work properly. There is a whole infrastructure in our culture that is set up for this type of thing. Banks, Realtors, Mortgage Brokers, Home Inspections, Title V (Septic Systems) Specialists, Plumbing and Heating Contractors, Roofers, Electricians, and Carpenters are all standing in line to reap the rewards of your "due diligence". With the average price of a home in Massachusetts topping a half-million dollars, you want to KNOW what you are paying for.
But, when Jesus said "Follow Me", He is not saying "Do the research and get back to me later." He is calling you to follow, in faith.
That's why the followers of Jesus were first called "Disciples". That means "learners". They would not be called "Apostles" (the ones who are sent out to teach) till much later.
Although they were fishermen, they left their nets behind, and followed, not knowing what was before them.
They didn't know HOW to follow, but, at that moment in their lives, they certainly knew WHO.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
