Ireland Set to Form Special Committee to Consider Legalizing Assisted Suicide

Following the passage of the Dying with Dignity Bill in the lower house of the Irish legislature last year, the Irish Parliament Justice Committee recommended the formation of a special committee on assisted suicide. The committee is expected to meet in October to review the possibility of legalizing assisted death, according to The Journal.

People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny said he hopes the committee will be the “beginning of a serious conversation in eventually changing the law around this issue in the lifetime of this government.”

The Dying with Dignity Bill would allow people diagnosed with terminally health conditions to access assisted suicide and would give health care professionals the legal right to help those persons commit suicide. The Justice Committee found that that legislation as proposed has “serious technical issues” and therefore, determined a special committee was necessary.

The committee is expected to have a reporting deadline of nine months, according to The Times; however, it may not be formed until after the committee on international surrogacy finalizes its review, which is expected shortly.

Because they can’t just take some pills all on their own right now, or wait for someone in the hospital to make a mistake and kill them, or let them sit in a hallway neglected and die.

Unassisted-someone else has to clean up the mess.

Time is on the side of this idea. Too many older baby boomers. out there. The slippery slope means at some point the government (like BJ & Saddam)gets to decide when your time is up.

How long do you figure before they try to install life clocks in your palm?

100% agree. It's an uncomfortable topic. Society should not promote it, and a person with dependents should weigh their feelings against the damage their family would inflict. Some believe it's an act against God.

However, the modern medical system, even in the last 10 years, has enabled people to survive in a twilight state that would have been long gone for most of human history, and our ethics haven't caught up to that reality. Anyone who has had a family member in this situation knows what I'm talking about.

There's not a single answer for every situation, but spending your last decade in a coma with a feeding tube, asphyxiating, crapping yourself, not knowing who you are or who is sitting by you, while you pay about $100k per year if you're privileged...that's not what was intended.

In my opinion, of all our rights, how we end our own lives is one of the most inviolable.

The government wants to have a say so in who self-terminates.

Wrong, because our life is not our own. We did not give ourselves our life, and we have no right to take it away either.

Right To Die very quickly turns into “Duty To Die”.

It should not be about the government, it's about the individual. The massive medical lobby is more than happy to bill the services.

I understand your perspective, and I know it comes from a good place.

I am going to assume you don't have first-hand experience, which I truly hope is accurate.

Right To Die very quickly turns into “Duty To Die”.

That slippery slope argument doesn't cut it in this case. The reality is that there are no government initiatives in place to terminate patients, while conversely tens of thousands are living in traumatic states because a specialist has "cured" a specific condition while the patient dies in slow motion from the side effects.

There was a post just a few days ago explaining Canadian doctors are doing just that. Trying to convince people who are somewhat ill to terminate themselves. This should concern any reasonable person.

Like he did in 2015 and 2018, when Ireland voted to legalize homo “marriage” and abortion, respectively, I’m sure Bergoglio will remain silent on assisted suicide, as he, instead, pimps illegal invasions, the death vax and global warming alarmism
