Noticed that also.

Seems as if the author is more interested in writing “who-done-its” than reporting anything of value.

Methodist Church’s First Drag Queen Pastor: ‘God Is Nothing’
In a new poem, a gender-bending minister for the nation’s third-largest denomination says that queerness is divine.

I was thinking the same thing. It says they’re leaving, but it doesn’t state the reasoning why.

From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Methodist_Church

“2020–2022 schisms
Main articles: Liberation Methodist Connexion and Global Methodist Church
On January 3, 2020, the denomination’s leadership released a proposal to split the Church over what it described as “fundamental differences” over homosexuality, particularly same-sex marriage (see § Homosexuality below).[18][30] The proposal would need to be approved by the General Conference in order to take effect. The 2020 General Conference, originally scheduled to be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[31]
A small group of the progressive wing announced the creation of a new denomination in November 2020, the Liberation Methodist Connexion.[22][23] It was launched on the First Sunday in Advent through an online service.[32]
Meanwhile, the name Global Methodist Church for the traditionalist denomination was revealed March 1, 2021, along with a new website and logo. The next General Conference is set for 2024.[33] At that time, delegates are expected to vote on the Protocol for Reconciliation and Grace through Separation.[34] The conservative Transitional Leadership Council said the Global Methodist Church would be officially started, with individual churches or conferences able to join, when the General Conference adopts legislation implementing the Protocol, although the Council “will consider bringing the new church into existence without delay” “if it becomes apparent” that leaders “who covenanted to support the Protocol no longer do so.”[35] Not wanting to wait for the General Conference to occur, some conservative United Methodist congregations left the United Methodist Church to become a part of the Free Methodist Church, a traditionalist Methodist denomination aligned with the holiness movement.[20][21] After the launch of the Global Methodist Church on 1 May 2022, a number of traditionalist United Methodist churches entered into the Global Methodist Church.[36]
On 10 May 2022, the Judicial Council of the United Methodist Church ruled that annual conferences in the United States cannot leave the church for the Global Methodist Church. Only individual churches can do so. The Romania-Bulgaria Conference has left the UMC. The South Georgia and Northwest Texas conferences are making preparations to leave the UMC, but this would require UMC General conference legislation.[37]”

The Conference is the big loser….and they probably don’t care.

The Conference has properties and endowments.

Liberation Methodist Connexion

Wow... check out this group's website and "About Us" page - if you dare. Quite the plethora of pronouns on display there.

>They are leaving the homosexuals behind by leaving the national Methodist Church.<

Thank you for that ‘short’ version.

I was wondering if there’s a schism in the UMC about women pastors. “Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; ...” I Cor. 14:34.

It’s actually more clearly stated than homosexuality is in the Bible.

I thought there was supposed to a structured mass separation of the UMC anyway. What happened to those plans?

1. The Methodist denomiation as a whole elected NOT to accept homosexual marriage - and that was led by the conservative African churches. The majority of the American churches voted for gay marriage
_______________
The traditional element of the UMC has won the vote to NOT change the Discipline for the last 30 years.

2. Some of these churches have pledged their property to the conference, so the liberals may try to claw back the valuable buildings and property, or force the congregations to buy it back. More money going to support liberal causes. This was what the Episcopalians did, (the Denis Canon). Churches that had been supported by families for generations, built with blood and sweat by the congregants, were kicked out of their own buildings.
___________________________________
ALL UMC physical plants are subject to “the trust clause” that says the UMC controls purchase and sale, etc. of church real property. That’s partly why this is so contentious: some conferences are adding hugely punitive requirements to allow congregations to take their property with them.

Read the part that says, “Do not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another daily...” (Heb. 10:25) - find your place in a Body of Christ, for your good and theirs.

So, you can’t answer the question that was contained in my comment? Will women be recognized as ordained ministers in the church which is leaving the national Methodist group, the UMC?

I’m saying that if they retain that false doctrine, they will go down the same path and end up where the UMC is now in short order. Poisonous doctrines poison.

Given that someone with “UMC” in her moniker participates regularly in Ukraine/Russia reporting, one wonders if her “UMC” is the United Methodist Church, and her “Rev” is “reverend.” If so, would this not be an ideal participant in this thread?

The “Theological Liberals” want to control the church agenda AND its resources/property. So they reneged under an earlier agreement to vote on the “Protocol for Reconciliation and Grace through Separation” at the 2022 General Conference. Instead, the General Conference was postponed until 2024 under the guise of COVID.

The split in UMC is not limited to the LBGT issue, but includes theological doctrine, Wesleyan principals, and leadership in the church. We see these movements to either corrupt or water-down the Word of God in other denominations as well.
