Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem
Exodus 6
6 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.”
2 God also said to Moses, “I am the Lord. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty,[a] but by my name the Lord[b] I did not make myself fully known to them. 4 I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they resided as foreigners. 5 Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.
6 “Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. 7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. 8 And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the Lord.’”
9 Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and harsh labor.
10 Then the Lord said to Moses, 11 “Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country.”
12 But Moses said to the Lord, “If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips[c]?”

Although I am still buzzing from the magnificent Santana/EW&F Concert, there is another event on the horizon that has been on my "Bucket List" for over 50 years. Next month, I will be seeing Eric Clapton for the first time.
Eric is older than I am, suffers from Diabetes, Peripheral Neuropathy, and encroaching deafness. Yet, in spite of all this, he is still considered one of the best rock guitar players in the world.
Like a good, compliant, senior citizen, Eric got vaccinated against COVID. (England, the AZ Vax). Within a day of the vax, his hands went numb, and he lost the use of them for several weeks. If this had happened to a regular person, it would be tragic, but for Eric, it was an international catastrophe. Naturally, he spoke out, not against vaccines in general, but about being mandated to take one. The backlash was immediate and brutal. The only people who stood by him were Van Morisson and Roger Daltry of The WHO (the Band, not the World Health Organization!) The effect finally wore off, and Eric got his chops back, but there are some people who, to this day, refuse to play his music. (Idiotic!) Anyway, two of my sisters and I will be having an AWESOME "Girls' Night Out" next month and I expect it to be the Concert of a Lifetime. A man like Eric Clapton, who beat both heroin addiction and alcoholism, will not be held back by a vax reaction, old age, illness, or even the perfidy of so-called "friends".
When I look at Current Events, especially those of the past week, it is easy to get discouraged. The Opposition seems to be so huge and powerful, and I feel so weak and powerless. From recent events, I get the feeling that My Vote, something I cherished and believed in for half a century, may have been rendered meaningless by cheaters and tyrants. Government and religious institutions have failed us, and even my own body has betrayed me with an encroaching handicap that is the nightmare of musicians: hearing loss. It's enough to make one want to throw in the towel!
Today's reading demonstrates that I am not alone. Even Moses, one of the greatest heroes of the Bible, had his moments. In fact, here he is, making excuses again! His biggest ones are:
"Nobady Listens To Me!"
and
"I Have a Handicap."
My Goodness! Those are MY excuses!
It helps to realize that God's Servants are not like the Heroes of Myth and Legend. They were normal people like you and me. Their Power did not come from themselves.We are not to put our trust in princes, government, or even religions, but in the One True God. When I am Weak, then He is Strong.
Stay tuned for the Concert review. I have a feeling it will fit right in with our look at Exodus.

It helps to realize that God's Servants are not like the Heroes of Myth and Legend. They were normal people like you and me. Their Power did not come from themselves.We are not to put our trust in princes, government, or even religions, but in the One True God. When I am Weak, then He is Strong. Recently, I had occasion to counsel a loved one who became discouraged by the faltering faith of fellow believers. I said:
Peter is a good proxy here. If Peter had looked around to see what the other disciples were doing, he never would have climbed out of that boat to test his faith. If Peter had rejected Jesus’ message in the upper room, he never would have asked to be saved over and over and over again. If Peter had trusted tradition, he never would have obeyed the Spirit, gone with Cornelius, and admitted billions of Gentiles into the faith. Later, that same Peter fell flat on his face and sank beneath the waves. Later, that same Peter denied his Lord three times. Later, that same Peter reneged on his epiphany and needed to be rebuked by Paul.
Get out onto the water, trust Jesus’ Word, and follow His Spirit.

Psalm 50
A Psalm of Asaph.
1 The mighty one, God the Lord,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines forth.
3 Our God comes and does not keep silence,
before him is a devouring fire,
and a mighty tempest all around him.
4 He calls to the heavens above
and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 ‘Gather to me my faithful ones,
who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!’
6 The heavens declare his righteousness,
for God himself is judge.
Selah
7 ‘Hear, O my people, and I will speak,
O Israel, I will testify against you.
I am God, your God.
8 Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you;
your burnt-offerings are continually before me.
9 I will not accept a bull from your house,
or goats from your folds.
10 For every wild animal of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know all the birds of the air,*
and all that moves in the field is mine.
12 ‘If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world and all that is in it is mine.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls,
or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,*
and pay your vows to the Most High.
15 Call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.’
16 But to the wicked God says:
‘What right have you to recite my statutes,
or take my covenant on your lips?
17 For you hate discipline,
and you cast my words behind you.
18 You make friends with a thief when you see one,
and you keep company with adulterers.
19 ‘You give your mouth free rein for evil,
and your tongue frames deceit.
20 You sit and speak against your kin;
you slander your own mother’s child.
21 These things you have done and I have been silent;
you thought that I was one just like yourself.
But now I rebuke you, and lay the charge before you.
22 ‘Mark this, then, you who forget God,
or I will tear you apart, and there will be no one to deliver.
23 Those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honour me;
to those who go the right way*
I will show the salvation of God.’

I share some of your handicaps—a musician with a deaf ear, a knee that is taking long to heal, can’t walk as far as I used to.
As for current events—may what was meant for evil, God will turn to good.
