On August 2, 2022, celebrations dedicated to the Prophet Elijah's Day were held in the center of Moscow. This date also marked the 92nd anniversary of Russian Airborne Force. Prophet Elijah is revered as the heavenly patron of the Russian paratroopers.
After the Divine Liturgy, celebrated in the Church of Elijah the Prophet, a show by the General V. Margelov Ryazan Higher Airborne Troops Academy cadets was held in the Red square, followed by an open-air concert named "For my Russia".
The tradition of celebrating the "Elijah's Day" goes back to the XVI-XVII centuries. It was interrupted after the October Revolution of 1917 and revived in 2003 with the approval of the RF President. Besides, August 2 is the day when the Soviet Airborne Force was born in 1930.

What makes you say that? Before the intervention there was 8 years of Azov hobbit artillery attacks on the Donbass. There wasn’t a minute of peace. And the Uke military was prepping to invade deeper into the Donbass.
The coup puppets were conducting 8 years of ethnic cleaning and war. So if Russians pulled out of the Donestk republics, the fighting wouldn’t stop.

I will believe that Russia has changed to the Christian faith when Lenin’s remains are given a burial, when red stars are removed from the Kremlin, and when Soviet Era flags are removed from the Russian military.

Why did I say there would be peace if Russia withdrew back to Russia? Because it is true.
Russia doesn’t give a damn about the Ukrainians in Donbas. But it does covet eastern Ukraine and Crimea. Putin has said that Ukraine is illegitimate, and is not an independent and sovereign country. Putin said that Ukraine is part of Russia, and that there are no two ways about it.
And, please; stop with this “genocide” crap; because that is exactly what it is.

Between 2014 and 2021, AOAV recorded 5,242 deaths and injuries in Ukraine, including 2,704 civilians and 2,538 armed actors and security personnel. Of the civilian casualties recorded, 2,381 (88%) were caused by explosive weapon use in populated areas.
Ground-launched weapons, such as shelling, mortars, rockets, or grenades, for example, have accounted for 2,459 civilian casualties since 2014 – 91% of total civilian casualties.
Of the civilian casualties, the vast majority occurred in 2014 and 2015, with 1,428 and 862 civilian deaths and injuries in these years respectively. Despite continued sporadic shelling across the line of control, which divides the region of Donbas, civilian casualties have fallen quite consistently since 2014, with 28 recorded last year. Fewer civilian casualties are also likely to have occurred as numerous civilians have fled the worst impacted areas in Donbas since 2014, leaving an aging population, many of whom cannot leave.
In many instances of shelling since 2014, the perpetrator has not been identified, but where they have, Ukrainian separatist forces have been responsible for at least 667 civilian casualties and Ukraine for 783.”

There would be peace between Ukraine and Russia, which is what the thread is all about. The thread is about RUSSIAN paratroopers. It is NOT about Ukrainian separatists.
If Russia withdrew back to Russia, that could result in peace between Russia and Ukraine.
The civil war would in all probability continue. But that is for Ukraine to work out.
I don’t see peace happening unless Eastern/Southern Ukraine is allowed to secede, which is what they’ve fought for for over 8 years.
At one time Russia had 7 Airborne divisions and a whole mess of bridge-building units and other offensive-type units and military structures aimed at Western Europe, it seemed to conflict with the claim that they were merely a defensive force, everything they had seemed to be built for attack.

The thing is, the Ukrainian constitution addresses that (secession would be put to the vote of the Ukrainian people in general, not just to those who wish to secede). But the separatists don’t want to do that. So, if they wish to be part of Russia, they can move across the border to Russia and become Russians.
Its all a mess> Let them sort it out at the peace table. Things are not going back to 1972, 2014, or 1729— But the deaths will continue on for another five years or so. Maybe a 10 million will die before they realize its just not worth it all. Give Peace a chance.
