The Orthodox Church Has Always Blessed Military Valor - Russian Church Spokesman (Legoida)

Murder is contrary to human nature, and no Saint has ever been canonized for murder, but the Church has never sanctioned soldiers who do their duty, explains Vladimir Legoida, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate's Synodal Department for Relations with Society and the Media.

“Murder is against human nature, forbidden by Lord's commandment. It is morally repulsive to any believer. However the Church has never called for the excommunication of warriors, who carry on their service, be it in the ancient time or now. All holy warriors are numbered among the saints because they raised the sword to defend their fellow men”.

The valor of a warrior has always been blessed by the Church, reminded Mr: Legoida:

“Our world, disfigured by sin, is imperfect. We have to choose: either we use violence against those who threaten the destruction of our homeland and death to our loved ones, or by our inaction we commit to death and suffering all those who are dear to us”.

The Russian Orthodox Church, yes. Other Orthodox Churches - sometimes.

The true peculiarity of the Russian Church is that it was a fully-captured “state church” for at least 500 years - that is, it was essentially a subservient branch of the imperial authority, however constituted. It was in the main dictated to, and so did as it was told.

A building is a symbol, not a religion.

And many tyrants have found religion a very effective way to influence and control a population.

And many tyrants have destroyed religion and any spiritual belief a very effective way of destroying freedom and controlling the masses. I think you need to read the Communist Manifestó by Karl Marx.

“Do you believe that Putin is actually a Christian?”

Vladimir Legoida explained:

“Murder is against human nature, forbidden by Lord’s commandment. It is morally repulsive to any believer...

Our world, disfigured by sin, is imperfect.

Ukraine could heed his words: “We have to choose: either we use violence against those who threaten the destruction of our homeland [Ukraine] and death to our loved ones, or by our inaction we commit [Ukraine]to death and suffering all those who are dear to us.”

Putin invaded the sovereign nation of Ukraine creating death to his soldiers as well as Ukrainian people & military.

Jesus said:
“You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?”
Matthew 7:16

Does Putin bear good fruit?

It would seem that they have returned to that arrangement.
