Good for these churches. They may escape the coming judgment!

When I was a kid, I was a bit dyslexic. I would often read “United” as “Untied”. The United States is becoming the Untied States and the United Methodist Church is now the Untied Methodist Church.

I work with a Christian youth organization. We hold to the biblical belief that marriage is one man and one woman.

We may have to ditch a few leftist churches from membership.

Why do they have to file a lawsuit? Just leave.

"One hundred and six Florida churches want to leave the denomination, and take their property with them."

And that's the tough part...

Our Church in Kentucky has decided to accept the rules that allow gay marriage and ordination. To be seen whether we actually allow it or not.

If they do, I’m out. Would be a very sad day.

I left the UMC years ago due to their “slippage.”

The United Methodist Church has been at this for about thirty years. St. Luke’s in Fresno was a big deal in the 1990’s with the case going to the California Supreme Court.

The Fresno church wanted to leave the UMC and the UMC laid claim to the property. In most cases when a church would join the UMC the UMC would actually take title to the property. In the Fresno case the congregation retained the title and leased the property to the UMC for $1 per year.

Church tradition became tbecame the question in the legal case as the UMC sought to obtain title to twell to the valuable property. A very liberal California Supreme Court ruled against the UMC declining to declining to overturn title law just because of someone’s church tradition.

The converse side of the case is that it firmly established that where the UMC holds title to a property they hold an unquestioned title. Which makes it all the more difficult for a local congregation to separate from the UMC and obtain ownership of their property.
