No stranger to controversy, Archbishop Elpidophoros has caused another commotion in the international Orthodox community.
In the midst of the ongoing scandal involving the Archbishop’s plans to consecrate a defrocked former priest as a bishop for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, which other hierarchs have characterized as a serious threat to Orthodox unity in America, the GOARCH head has made headlines by baptizing the children of a gay celebrity couple.
The parents and relatives are praising the Archbishop for serving the “first openly gay baptism” in the Greek Church.
Just after the GOARCH Clergy-Laity Conference ended in New York, Abp. Elpidophoros made an unannounced trip to the Athens suburb of Vouliagmeni to baptize the children of actor Evangelo Bousis and fashion designer Peter Dundas, whom he has been connected to for a long time, reports inciao.gr.
The Baptism took place within the diocese of Metropolitan Antonios of Glyfada [OrthoChristian initlaly mistaken reported that it was in the diocese of Metropolitan Nikolaos of Mesogaia—OC].
The two children were born from a surrogate mother. Among the Godparents, the couple chose the Italian model Bianca Brandolini and the golden heiress Eugenia Niarchou. The Baptisms were then celebrated with a “meal and wild party,” where Greek-Cypriot singer Anna Vissi sang her biggest hits.

One - a child is a child and deserves to be baptized.
2 - what in the world is a “gay” baptism? Is it different from a “straight” baptism? Is sex involved in baptism? I only knew about fire and water…
Lastly that this, so-called, priest cares more about the pomp and circumstance than the salvation and soul of the child tells me all I need to know about the corruption of his church.
So special.
So brave...
.
The Greek Orthodox are beginning to swirl the drain like most mainstream Christian denominations. The Russian Orthodox seem to be a little more resistant to this apostasy.
Homo Orthodox Church Ping
I’m so disappointed. I was holding out hope that the orthodox church would not fall to the gay agenda.
This was ill-advised, but I don’t see this as indicating a trend in the Orthodox Church. The American hierarchs have clearly stated that homosexual marriage cannot be performed in the Orthodox Church. I don’t know much about Elpidophoros, except he has been involved in some other controversies that bishops of other American jurisdictions don’t approve of. Maybe he is the American Greek Orthodox Francis.
The creep on the left is already groping “his” child.
Save Thy people, O Lord,
and bless Thine inheritance.
Grant victory to Thy Church over her enemies,
and protect Thy people by Thy Holy Cross!
IMHO the bare-midriffed girls to the right of the picture are VERY inappropriately attired for Church!
Well I hope you’re right but I have been around to see one thing lead to another and whole denominations gradually become slaves to the gay agenda.
First they want a blessing, a normalizing….
I don’t see them changing something as foundational as the nature of a sacrament. Even if they wanted to do it, there would have to be consensus and agreement among all of the Orthodox jurisdictions in the world. That is not going to happen. One jurisdiction that decided to go off on its own and have homosexual marriage would automatically be in schism with the rest of the Orthodox Church.
The woman on the right is wearing a crop top in church, too.
Baptismal sponsors (kumovi in Serbian) also have responsibility for the Orthodox Christian formation of the child!!!!
They are NOT mere celebrity accessories at the time of Holy Baptism (which also includes Chrismation and First Holy Communion)!!!!
Barely appropriate for a Mediterranean ethinc food festival dance group in the hall but definitely INAPPROPRIATE when a Sacrament is being served.
Alter boy?
That, you are!
Are you an adult yet?
Where is the barf alert?
