Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Genesis 13
Abram and Lot Separate
13 So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, with his wife and everything he had, and Lot went with him. 2 Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold.
3 From the Negev he went from place to place until he came to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier 4 and where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the Lord.
5 Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. 6 But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together. 7 And quarreling arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time.
8 So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. 9 Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”
10 Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) 11 So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company: 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. 13 Now the people of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the Lord.
14 The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring[a] forever. 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. 17 Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”
18 So Abram went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he pitched his tents. There he built an altar to the Lord.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father,
Who Art in Heaven,
How Blessed,
How Glorious,
How Wonderful,
Is Your Most Holy Name!
How Mighty and Perfect is Your Word,
And Your Promise,
Which You have allowed us a glimpse into Your Perfect Will!
You, The Eternal,
The Omnipotent,
The Immortal,
Not Bound By Time or Space,
because You Created it,
Your Ways are not our ways,
And yet we hunger and thirst for You,
like a thirsty little deer panting in the forest,
seeking a bubbling spring for a fresh sip of water!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Those who read this thread may remember an article I wrote about a week ago concerning a College Course entitled "Conflict Management". You may also recall that my friend explained that the title of the course used to be"Conflict Resolution", but they changed it. My friend and I didn't get to discuss it further, because we were at a cookout and there were lots of people there conversing and having a great time. However, the Title Change left an impression on me, because I am a "FIXER". Some of you may be able to relate to this. When a conflict arises, my first impulse is to "FIX" it. I want to be the big "Problem-Solving-Guru", The "Knight-In-Shining-Armor", the "Go-To-Gal" with the fix for every situation. When someone asked for prayer, I would give advice. When someone told me of an affliction, I would advise a recipe for a cure. Sometimes, people don't want advice. They just need someone to comfort them, listen to them, and pray for them. Although my "fixing" came from a sincere heart, it was not always the best thing for the conflict. Many times, the conflict can't be resolved right away, but it can be managed. May God continue to teach me the difference between the two types of situations!
Abram and his nephew Lot found themselves in the midst of a "unfixable" conflict. Both were prosperous herdsmen. Their wealth, measured in livestock, was putting such a strain on the available grazing land that it threatened the survival of the herd. We had a similar conflict in our own American History, between Cattle Ranchers and Sheep Herders. In the parlance of the old Western Movies:
"This Here Town Ain't BIG ENOUGH for the Two of Us!"
And so, the employees and families of Abram and Lot got into some fights out there in the pastures. It was not a "fixable" situation. Abram couldn't call up a "Conference" to discuss conflict resolution, or deliver a lecture, or issue a memo. Whatever was said or done, there would still not be enough grass for all the animals. And so, the conflict had to be "managed" instead. Abram did it by giving Lot choices. Lot could choose the best land for himself if he wanted to (and he DID), but that was OK with Abram. Whatever. Abram did not let pride, greed, or even self-preservation interfere with Lot's decision. As we shall see, by Lot claiming the better portion, he actually plunged himself into a REALLY bad situation.
Meanwhile, Abram, bearing no ill will against his nephew, was able to move on from the conflict. Abram and Lot's paths would cross again, as we shall see in later chapters, mostly by Abram rescuing Lot out of situations arising from Lot's own selfish decisions. Since God knows everything before it happens, even these little domestic conflicts are part of our Redemptive History. One thing always leads to another, as we shall see.

LOL! That is true. But, even though I've never been a "husband", I have been a "Fixer" most of my life.

Amen !!! <><
Psalm 55
To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David.
1 Give ear to my prayer, O God;
do not hide yourself from my supplication.
2 Attend to me, and answer me;
I am troubled in my complaint.
I am distraught 3by the noise of the enemy,
because of the clamour of the wicked.
For they bring* trouble upon me,
and in anger they cherish enmity against me.
4 My heart is in anguish within me,
the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
5 Fear and trembling come upon me,
and horror overwhelms me.
6 And I say, ‘O that I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest;
7 truly, I would flee far away;
I would lodge in the wilderness;
Selah
8 I would hurry to find a shelter for myself
from the raging wind and tempest.’
9 Confuse, O Lord, confound their speech;
for I see violence and strife in the city.
10 Day and night they go around it
on its walls,
and iniquity and trouble are within it;
11 ruin is in its midst;
oppression and fraud
do not depart from its market-place.
12 It is not enemies who taunt me—
I could bear that;
it is not adversaries who deal insolently with me—
I could hide from them.
13 But it is you, my equal,
my companion, my familiar friend,
14 with whom I kept pleasant company;
we walked in the house of God with the throng.
15 Let death come upon them;
let them go down alive to Sheol;
for evil is in their homes and in their hearts.
16 But I call upon God,
and the Lord will save me.
17 Evening and morning and at noon
I utter my complaint and moan,
and he will hear my voice.
18 He will redeem me unharmed
from the battle that I wage,
for many are arrayed against me.
19 God, who is enthroned from of old,
Selah
will hear, and will humble them—
because they do not change,
and do not fear God.
20 My companion laid hands on a friend
and violated a covenant with me*
21 with speech smoother than butter,
but with a heart set on war;
with words that were softer than oil,
but in fact were drawn swords.
22 Cast your burden* on the Lord,
and he will sustain you;
he will never permit
the righteous to be moved.
23 But you, O God, will cast them down
into the lowest pit;
the bloodthirsty and treacherous
shall not live out half their days.
But I will trust in you.
