Head of German Bishops: Church Teaching on Homosexuality, Female Ordination ‘Must be Changed’

Bishop Bätzing added that Pope Francis ‘disappoints’ him since the Pope is not enacting enough change in the Church.

(LifeSiteNews) – Bishop Georg Bätzing, president of the German Bishop’s Conference (DBK), has demanded that Catholic Church teaching on homosexuality and the role of women “must be changed.”

Bätzing made the comments in a May 22 interview which dealt extensively with his desire for change in the Church, along with his disappointment at Pope Francis for not ushering in enough change.

Meanwhile Bishop Bätzing is forging ahead with radical attempted changes to Church teaching in Germany via the Synodal Way, looking to “change” teaching on many areas of sexuality, including opening the door to approving “practiced homosexuality,” female deacons, along with advocating masturbation and contraception.

“The Pope disappoints me too, but in the sense of a deception,” said Bätzing. “Even in the Catholic Church, the Pope is not the one who could turn the Church upside down, even with all the rights that are due to him, which we wish for. He does what he can.”

Either the word of God is eternal and not subject to change by the whims of men, or there is no point.

Germany has a longstanding tradition of State-financing for religion, through something called the “Church Tax.” (Kirchensteuer). Depending upon which state you live in, everybody is taxed either 8% or 9% of their income, with that tax going directly to either the Catholic Church or the Evangelical (Lutheran) Church depending upon which one of the two the person was baptized in. (In multicultural modern Germany, they may have added Islam to that, but don’t know for sure)

The only way you can get out of paying that tax is by officially “apostasize” by making a formal declaration with the Church and then ratifying that with the State. I don’t know how the Evangelical church deals with that, but if you’re a Catholic and do that, you will be denied all access to the sacraments and will also be denied a Catholic funeral. (Many here on FR criticized that, but it makes sense after a fashion...if you, for economic reasons, formally declare yourself to be an apostate, why would you need access to the spiritual benefits offered by the Church?)

There are a number of people who have done exactly that in recent years, but most don’t because the apostacy declaration is very public.

As a result, the German bishops really don’t care about their parishioners, they don’t care that the churches are virtually empty, they care about that sweet Kirchensteuer they get from the government. That’s why they toe the leftist line...as long as they conform to the leftists’ expectations, they don’t need to worry about the government coming in an eliminating the church tax. But I will guarantee that if they, as a group, start preaching the historical teachings of the Church in regard to moral theology, then they might have to worry.

It’s a vicious circle.

Also, FWIW, in case you wonder why Catholic bishops in the US are so squishy on moral issues as well as immigration (though there are plenty of good, solid priests who will never get consecrated as bishops), look no farther than George W Bush’s “White House Office of Faith-based and Community Initiatives.” Via the actions of that office, churches have been able to reap billions through grants for “refugee resettlement” and other purposes.

Bätzing seemingly shows no fear of God nor the perfect justice that awaits all of us. He seems to think God is the spirit of Joe Biden - a senile, faltering fool - and that he (Bätzing) will be able to snooker the Ol’ Boy.
I wish no one ill, but when someone pulls the roof down on his own head it’s hard not to say, Told ya so.

If you don't like it you can add a few extra theses to the church in Wittenberg.

The bigger the church, the more corrupted it is. Little Hispanic churches set up in store fronts in urban neighborhoods ain’t doing this crap. It’s mostly in the gorgeous, historic cathedrals. Shows you how completely screwed up and upside down the world has become.

Has this person ever read the Bible?

Does he believe the Church is just to be a social club?

In effect, there is a "German Catholic Church" which is distinct from the Roman one?

Why not just go Lutheran?
