Those medieval ones at the beginning are interesting for their demureness, and then along comes the totally hot sculpture of Bathsheba in # 4.
You’ve found me out.
Good Morning, Dan!
Mary-Lou, my friend!
It is interesting how the interpretation of the ideal female form has changed over the ages.
Good morning Dan, and Happy Friday to all.
I get a great deal from those who reply to your Art Ministry Post.
Thank you Dan for each of these. #23 certainly raises some questions...
Yo, Leon!
I agree that responders often contribute substantially.
Difficult to name a favorite. Always excellent Lucas Cranach; the sensuous sculpture of Victor at #4, the two Massys paintings at #16 and #40; the beautiful #29 by Gerome and #30 by Verkolje. The Rembrandt is unusual as he chose not to include David but focus on the intimate moment of Bathsheba’s bath.
I got a kick out of finding FOUR by Artemisia.
#4!
Easy for you to say.
The Bible says David sent for her but doesn’t mention a letter.
Prolific painter! I like the work of her father Orazio better than hers. If you would like to know more about her, here is an article from The Guardian.

Some of them make David appear to be a very desperate man. Very.
Yes it was! LOL.
Artistic license....but it’s laudable that you pay such close attention to the text.
“Desperate” is one of many adjectives he richly earned that day and in the days following. He was the original cautionary tale.
I thinkt it was J Vernon McGee who pointed out that Baathsehba has to bear some of the fault for this ugly chapter in David’s reign since she no doubt knew that she was exposing herself to David’s view.
