Archbishop Heiner Koch of Berlin has asked forgiveness for the church's discrimination against people because of their sexual orientation.
Homophobia was an "unholy line of tradition" in the Catholic Church, Koch said May 17 during an ecumenical service in the Protestant Twelve Apostles Church in Berlin.
The German Catholic news agency KNA said he called for respect for the dignity of every human being, regardless of their sexual orientation, and announced that the Archdiocese of Berlin would take measures to ensure this.
The archbishop said each parish would have commissioners to counter such discrimination. He pledged to intervene personally if employees of the archdiocese were threatened with consequences under church labor law on the grounds of their sexual orientation. He added that he was not aware of any such case in the archdiocese so far, KNA reported.
The Rev. Christina-Maria Bammel said that in Protestant parishes, too, people who did not conform to heterosexual norms had not been accepted "for far too long." The theologian added: "Every phobia separates from God and Christ and becomes a sin."

Most folks, Catholic or not, are not homophobic: we do not have irrational fear of homosexuals. What we have is rational aversion for the practice, hope the homosexual will repent, encouragement and compassion for those who are trying to repent, and love for all mankind and womankind and their eternal destiny that refuses to approve of pride in sin as a virtue.
If he doesn’t like 2,000 years of Christian teaching he can find another religion, not change the one he is supposedly in. You can be gay and Christian, but you can’t engage in homosexual behavior, including parading that sexual preference around and pushing it into other people’s faces. That is not allowed.

The homosexual act is a deadly mortal sin that invites the wrath of God.
If fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom then it is only common sense to fear the temptation to grave sin.
I do not fear homosexuals but I do fear the possible influence that ‘Groomers’ can have of the young and impressionable.
Homosexuality is a sin according to God’s own Word.

Mr. Archbishop, surely you have read Romans 1:21-32? Were you taught the meaning of those verses in your seminary? If so, why do you think that homosexuals are “discriminated against”? God himself identifies them as idolaters and the basest of sinners. Can anything be clearer than the following verses from the Holy Bible?
“Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship Him as God or even give Him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator Himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. It isn't.
This does no service to homosexuals. Telling sinners that their sin is no sin misleads them. Both the sinners and their False Teachers face a dire fate.
What about "forgiveness" for raping children?
