Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 20

The Thousand Years

20 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.

4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They[a] had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

Happy Mothers Day! Usually I post Proverbs 31 on Mothers Day, but several people have already posted it on this site, so let's continue in this intense Book of Revelation. (I recommend you look up Proverbs 31 and enjoy the glowing depiction of "A Woman of Valor" before the day is over).

Today's brief passage brings up some frightening images of Satan. This particular name for the adversary is from the Ancient Mesopotamian Languages, and means "adversary". That is a rather mild description. After all, my little sister is my "adversary" when we play Scrabble. We are about evenly matched in vocabulary, having been raised with the same parents in the same household, and so, we never know who will win. It is always a close game and always interesting. And so, "Adversary" doesn't begin to tell the whole story of this powerful, evil, entity.

This paragraph from Revelation 20 gives us a bit more insight into the nature of our adversary. He is a Deceiver. And, if we look objectively at the history of our bewildered planet, we will soon see that nearly all the evil in the world is brought about by deception. George Orwell pictured this principle perfectly in his dystopian novel 1984. Winston, the protagonist, worked in the "Ministry of Truth" which was the News and Propaganda Department of the government. His job was to search every document ever published to make sure it complied with government policies. Anything that disagreed with Big Brither's current opinions was excised and dropped into the "Memory Hole", meaning it was destroyed, as if the destruction of a memory would mean that the event never happened. It has been 55 years since i read that book, and yet I see it coming alive right before my eyes.

Mothers Day used to be a day to celebrate Women and Motherhood, but now it has become a day to harrass Churchgoers and Supreme Court Judges over the issue of killing babies. Even the word "Mother" has been changed to "Birthing Person" and elementary schools are installing menstrual supplies in little boys' restrooms. (I am not making this up).

One of the ways The Deceiver destroys people is with memory, language, and the destruction of their culture. The Beast and the False Prophet are both products of deception, and the effect on people is cumulative. One lie sets the stage for the next one and on and on.

Due to the penalties suffered for the exposing of the lies (doxxing, banning, slander, shunning, job loss, even prison) it is so much easier to let the "little lies" go by, especially if they don't affect one personally. But one compromise leads to another, and soon the lie takes over.

This is scary stuff, but, Revelation tells us that The Deceiver will eventually be thrown, with his buddies the Beast and the False Prophet, into The Lake of Fire. The "Good Guys" win in the end. Hallelujah!
