Revelation 19

Threefold Hallelujah Over Babylon’s Fall

19 After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in heaven shouting:

“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2      for true and just are his judgments.
He has condemned the great prostitute
    who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

3 And again they shouted:

“Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”

4 The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried:

“Amen, Hallelujah!”

5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying:

“Praise our God,
    all you his servants,
you who fear him,
    both great and small!”

6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:

“Hallelujah!
    For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
7  Let us rejoice and be glad
    and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
    and his bride has made herself ready.
8  Fine linen, bright and clean,
    was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)

9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”

Almighty and Everlasting Father,
How Glorious and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,

As most of you know, I have recently adopted a lovely little Aussie Cattle Dog named "Tippy". She is two years old and a bundle of energy. She knows a lot of commands, and we are bonding beautifully. My only problem has been her bathroom habits, which I know will be eventually solved with patience and positive reinforcement. My Dear Friend, who trains dogs, suggested that I be very attuned to Tippy's "body language" so I will know when she needs to go out. We've been doing that, but once outside, Tippy gets SO Distracted by bunnies, sqirrels, chipmonks, cats, turkeys, ducks, robins, Canada Geese, mice, and other wildlife, that she has no desire to stop and do her business. We have already done 8 laps around the park (about 2 miles) and all Tippy has done is chase wildlife. She is resting comfotably at my side right now, but I know she has to "go". Well the THREAD comes first, Girl. When I am done, I'll take you out again. (I'm losing weight! Hallelujah!)

This Study of Revelation has been so exciting that the primary topic (Prayer) sometimes gets lost in all the Fury, Excitement, Visions, Angels, Dragons, Beasts, and Thunder of this Book. Also, it is very easy to make comparisons with the Prophecies and What is Going On in the Present Day. And so, every few chapters, God has to give us a little jerk on the leash and reveal to us the Primary Activity in Heaven.

Then, the Scene switches back to the Throne of God, and the Prayer and Praise that appears throughout this amazing Book.

This Chapter is subtitled The Threefold Hallelujah. Most of us know that "Hallelujah" is Hebrew for "PRAISE THE LORD". It is not a resigned praise, mumbled out of resignation. It is enthusiastic, excited, and genuine. Here is the First of the Three Prayers:

“Hallelujah!
Salvation and glory and power belong to our God,
2 for true and just are his judgments.
He has condemned the great prostitute
who corrupted the earth by her adulteries.
He has avenged on her the blood of his servants.”

3 And again they shouted:

“Hallelujah!
The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.”

While the Lamentations about Babylon in the previous Chapter bemoaned the destruction of that evil city, this "Hallelujah" prayer agrees that God is Just in His Judgements, and Righteous in all He does.

The next "Hallelujah" is a "Doxology" (remeber those?), in which God is celebrated for His Glory with Praise:

“Praise our God,
all you his servants,
you who fear him,
both great and small!”

It can also be called an exhortation to Praise.

The Third "Hallelujah" Praises God, but also makes a Blessing and a Wedding Announcement:

“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
7 Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
8 Fine linen, bright and clean,
was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s Holy People.)

It is from this "Hallelujah" Prayer that The People of God have come to be known as "The Bride of Christ".

We don't ever have to be at a loss what to Pray, as this Chapter lays it out:

1. Praise God for What He Has Done. Agree with Him that He always does the right thing.
2. Praise Him for Who He Is and what He is doing NOW.
3. Praise Him for What is to Come for those who love Him.
