I

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 14

The Lamb and the 144,000

14 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4 These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they remained virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among mankind and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5 No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Hallowed,
Magnificent,
and Sanctified
is Your Most Holy Name!
How Blessed and How True is Your Word,
and How Mighty!
How Glorious,
to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the beginning from The End!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space
With Your Word and Your Omniscient Imagination!
Scientists tell us even the heavens are finite.
But YOU are Infinite!
Thank You, Father,
For This Glorious Chronicle of Your Creation!
Thank You for the Glimpse into the Magnificent Power
of Your Creative Word!
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.
Hallelujah and Amen.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Back in the 1980's when Reagan was President, there was a thawing of relations between the USA and the Soviet Union, which allowed a cultural exchange of music and art. It was during that period that I actually got to see and hear the Bolshoi Ballet, the Red Army Chorus, and varius Folk Ensembles a they toured America. One of the most extraordinary performances that I attended was The Osipov Balalaika Orchestra. Now, I HAD a Balalaika, and it was essentially a folk instrument with very limited power. It only had three strings, two of which were tuned to the same note, and the third string tuned to one fourth above the two "drone" strings. It was played with the index finger (not a pick like a guitar) which wags back and forth in a "scolding" gesture, which produces a tremelo. It is usually an accompaniment for voice. I could not imagine a whole orchestra of them, and I HAD to check it out.

The night of the concert started out weird. We had to wend our way through protestors who were blocking the entrance to Symphony Hall. It turns out that they were protesting the treatment of Soviet Jews, and I actually agreed with them, but I was too cowardly to say anything at the time. Besides, I HAD to hear this Orchestra made up of only Balalaikas. It was a good thing, I thought, that Symphony Hall has world-renouned acoustics, otherwise the little folk instrument's sound would be lost in the cavernous space.

There is no curtian onstage at Symphony Hall, and the Orchestra was all set up and ready to go as we took our seats. Over 100 Musicians, in identical embroidered shirts, bearing Balalaikas of every size imaginable, struck the first chord. It nearly blew the roof off Symphony Hall!

A little over two years ago, this thread featured a study of "Music in the Bible". At the time, we were all staying indoors for "Fifteen Days To Stop The Spread" of COVID19. (We all know how THAT turned out). Anyway, my confinement was enhanced by Cable TV which graciously showed (for Free!) a series of College Courses, 26 Lectures apiece, on many different subjects. I decided to cram as many College Courses into the allotted period of free viewing, and I ended up completeing Five Courses and tried out a few more. Then, after several weeks of adding to my education, the screen went dark...unless I was willing to PAY. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. Anyway, the Courses I completed were:

1. Sacred Music from the Middle Ages to the Present
2. Gothic Cathedrals
3. Twenty of the World's Greatest Piano Pieces
4. St. Augustine and The City of God
5. Beethoven

The ones I took a stab at but didn't complete were "How to Read Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics"(boring), "The Bubonic Plague" (not encouraging viewing during a pandemic), and "The Canterbury Tales" (snooty prof turned me off). Well, at least I gave it a try. Anyway, the Courses I DID complete enhanced this Thread, especially the one about "Sacred Music".

You can bet that Today's Reading came up in the Study on "Music in the Bible". I remember a discussion about how the Western Concert Harp differs from the Hebrew "Kinor", which is held in the hands. There are craftsmen in Israel who make "Kinors" today, and they are very beautiful. Like the Balalaika, they don't have a lot of strings, and they have a delicate sound. Also, like the Balalaika, the Kinor comes in different sizes. The bigger they are, the deeper and louder they sound. If you put a bunch of them together, say 144,000 of them, I bet it would blow through the roof of Heaven.

In the Sacred Music Course, the Professor talked quite a bit about "Handel's Messiah". It was not originally written as "Sacred Music" but rather as "Entertainment". It was meant for a Concert setting, rather than Church. But, when the "Hallelujah Chorus" comes up in the program, the whole audience stands up and sings along. It happens every time! And sometimes, it is enough to blow through the roof.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 4

To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.

1 Answer me when I call, O God of my right!
You gave me room when I was in distress.
Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.

2 How long, you people, shall my honour suffer shame?
How long will you love vain words, and seek after lies?
Selah
3 But know that the Lord has set apart the faithful for himself;
the Lord hears when I call to him.

4 When you are disturbed,* do not sin;
ponder it on your beds, and be silent.
Selah
5 Offer right sacrifices,
and put your trust in the Lord.

6 There are many who say, ‘O that we might see some good!
Let the light of your face shine on us, O Lord!’
7 You have put gladness in my heart
more than when their grain and wine abound.

8 I will both lie down and sleep in peace;
for you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.
