John 21 is a very timely chapter, located at the end of the Gospel accounts and containing the description [from the disciple whom Jesus loved following] of who would betray Jesus.
"A lie can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its boots."
Metaphorical maxims about the speedy dissemination of lies and the much slower propagation of corrective truths have a very long history.
John 1
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

John was a scrupulous, observant, detail-oriented man. He recorded:

There are a few Johns in the NT, so there is some debate if this John is the same as the John who received the Revelation of Jesus Christ.
I'm merely pointing out the existence of the question. In the world of the living (today, when people are presently alive) "John" is a very popular name. John Doe [ג'ון דו] could be any unknown man or a man whose identity is intentionally obscured.

Who betrayed Jesus?
The saying went abroad, about what Jesus said. Yet the report was loose opinion -- exciting, but inaccurate.
"A lie can travel around the world and back again while the truth is lacing up its boots."
John shows himself reliable, whoever he is. Trustworthy, because God always preserves a remnant who won't die off.
Perhaps it explains why he ended up on Patmos and was the one who received the relevation of Jesus Christ. Obviously not a proper "team player" if he remained firmly grounded in the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
It's so hard to find good help these days. Elijah was a loner, not winning any popularity contests.
Elias: yet another one of those "Johns".
The place built for Elias' cabinet of curiosities is the place where the Messiah (a "kinnor") is on display in plain sight, where it all starts with the music.

Location is an important detail. It's where you'll find the simple, down-to-earth "can-do" man who eats shoots and leaves:

Location. Location. Location.
It's as if the author of that edit -- the change located within the Ethics of the Fathers - signed it with His name as the edit itself. That's exactly how the God of Abraham rolls. There's no competition. Truth is stranger and way more exciting than fiction.

I was just looking at that same web page not long ago, about the origin of that expression about lies. I can’t remember the specific reason why I looked it up, but definitely I was thinking of it being appropriate to the times.
